Chris Eubank Jr provides worrying update just weeks before Conor Benn rematch

The pair will renew hostilities on November 15 - seven months after their initial clash - but Eubank Jr has sent shockwaves around the boxing world after providing a worrying update

Chris Eubank Jr has claimed his fight with Conor Benn has not been fully agreed.

The pair are due to meet for a second time on November 15 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium - seven months after their initial encounter. Eubank Jr handed Benn the first loss of his professional career after scoring a razor-thin decision victory in north London.

Both were committed to an immediate rematch - which was initially set for September 20. However, Eubank Jr plunged the sequel into doubt after claiming he would not be ready for the aforementioned date. Eventually, the two teams were able to strike a deal.

Ahead of the first outing, both men signed contracts for two fights, but in a recent update, Eubank Jr has surprisingly admitted that there are still some terms that now to be agreed to. Speaking on Ring Magazine's Inside the Ring podcast, he said: "These are not easy waters to navigate.

"You know, the final contract for this fight hasn’t actually even been fully agreed on. So, you know, there’s still a few things that we’re gonna try and smooth out and make right." Eubank Jr opted against providing more clarity on the situation when he was asked to elaborate.

"But there are certain parts of the contract that are still up for negotiation. I’m not gonna go into what parts of those contracts they are, but we are in negotiations for certain things," he added. "So, it’s up to me and my team to get the best deal.”

Following confirmation of the rematch, the rules are set to be the same as the first outing. This means that Eubank Jr and Benn will fight at 160lbs - with a 10lb rehydration clause in place for the morning of the fight. Eubank Jr stunned the boxing world back in April after he was fined £375,000 for failing to make weight.

Last month, Eubank Jr's promoter Ben Shalom stated that there should be some sort of wiggle room regarding the weight. Eubank Jr suffered from severe dehydration back in April and was taken straight to hospital after the fight where he spent 48 hours as he struggled with dehydration.

In an interview with talkSPORT, Shalom said: “We aren’t happy with the rehydration clause. Chris isn’t committed to that rehydration clause again, as of yet. The initial time that was put to us it was an ultimatum. It was the fight is not happening unless this. So Chris is in a difficult position.

“Everything was agreed, everything, we’ve gone through the contract and done every single clause. We get to the last moment just before the press conference and then it was landed on us, an ultimatum like that.”

The boxing promoter added: “In the end, Chris is a money man, and he accepted the challenge. Is it healthy, is it right? Should it be banned from boxing? Absolutely. It should not be used in this fight.”
