Ricky Hatton's ex-girlfriend pays tribute to 'inspirational' star after death aged 46

Tributes to Ricky Hatton continue to pour in following the legendary British boxer's death and his former girlfriend Chelsea Claire is among those who have spoken out to remember him

Ricky Hatton's former girlfriend, Chelsea Claire, has penned an emotional tribute to the 'inspirational' boxing icon, whose death has left her 'heartbroken'.

It emerged on Sunday that Hatton had tragically passed away at the age of 46 with Greater Manchester Police confirming a body had been found at the former world champion's home. A spokesperson confirmed that his death was not being treated as suspicious. Tributes have since flooded in from the world of boxing and beyond for Hatton, who was one of Britain's most popular and accomplished boxers during his prime.

Claire, who dated Hatton back in 2023, has also reacted to his passing with a touching social media post where she says she was "lucky to call you my partner".

"Heartbroken doesn't begin to cover what myself and the rest of the world are feeling," Claire wrote on her Instagram story alongside a picture of the two of them. "You were an inspiration to many and I was lucky to call you my partner.

"You will be missed so much."

Hatton's brother, Matthew, also shared throwback pictures of himself and his sibling on social media alongside the words: "I love you Richard. See you on the other side X".

A poignant minute's applause was held before the Manchester derby for Hatton, a devout City fan. His beloved City went on win the game 3-0 with one of their goalscorers, Phil Foden, dedicating the win to him. Pep Guardiola also thanked Manchester United fans for playing their part in a powerful tribute to Hatton.

"I want to say thank you so much for Man United fans for the way they behave and they applaud," he said. "I know he was a world champion in boxing. It was a special, special moment. Of course, there's no words that can explain the pain that the family feel right now for this loss.

"But of course, we are close. I know how incredible a Man City fan he is, he could live the bad moments and the good moments in the last 10, 15 years. I think he will enjoy it. I know for the fans how close he was.

"The minute’s applause was unbelievable. It was an experience that I will always remember because they feel, in every applause or every person in the stadium, the gratitude for what he has done professionally and of course being a massive, massive City fan. We are so sad and feel so sorry for the family."
