Erling Haaland told Premier League record is his for the taking: 'He's well on course'
Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has been told he can break Alan Shearer's Premier League record for goals, with the Norwegian well on course to become the competition's top scorer
Erling Haaland has been told he can become the greatest goalscorer in Premier League history... he just needs to stay fit
The Manchester City hitman has been English football's premier marksman since his £52m switch from Borussia Dortmund to the Etihad in 2022. The giant Norwegian bagged a remarkable 36 league strikes in his debut campaign, propelling City towards their historic Treble triumph.
And Haaland has rattled in an incredible 91 league goals across 104 outings in English football's top flight - kicking off the new season with six goals already, including a double in the Manchester derby win, and is topping the Premier League goalscoring charts once again.
Much has been made this week of a potential Harry Kane return to the Premier League from Bayern Munich - potentially next summer - and the possibility of the England captain breaking Alan Shearer's record of 260 Premier League goals.
However, Shearer's former England colleague Teddy Sheringham believes Haaland is the man who can go on to become the league's greatest goalscorer.
Speaking to Coin Poker, Sheringham said: "Could Erling Haaland become the greatest striker in Premier League history? Why not? It will come down to how long he stays at Manchester City, and that could depend on whether or not Pep Guardiola stays at the club for another few years.
"He'll do well to beat Alan Shearer's record of 260 goals, but he's a top player and if he keeps going the way he is, then he's well on course to do it.
"He's a top goalscorer, but we'll have to wait and see whether he stays fit and remains at City for long enough to break the record. If he's still at the club in 10 years' time, then there's no reason why he won't break the record.
"He's already broken the record for the most goals in a Premier League season (36), he was the the quickest to two, three, four and five hat-tricks, and the first to score hat-tricks in three consecutive home matches.
"He obviously likes breaking records, and he might have already set his sights on the big one."
