Wrexham AFC's Paul Mullin stars in Ryan Reynolds' new MCU film "Deadpool & Wolverine"

Paul Mullin has been a star for Wrexham AFC during the club's journey back to the Premier League and his impact on the field has not gone unnoticed by Ryan Reynolds, the star of 'Deadpool & Wolverine'

Wrexham AFC's ace Paul Mullin is basking in the spotlight not just on the pitch but now in Hollywood.

Mullin has become a key player for Wrexham since being signed by actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, with the duo's takeover of the Welsh club being officially sealed in February 2021. The striker who previously played for Cambridge United has banged in a whopping 105 goals in 129 appearances over three seasons, making him nearly a goal-a-game wonder.

His goal-scoring prowess has been instrumental in Wrexham's successive promotions and their push towards Premier League ambitions. In gratitude, 47-year-old Reynolds included Mullin in his newest blockbuster "Deadpool & Wolverine."

The film "Deadpool & Wolverine" showcases the much-awaited collision of Reynolds' Deadpool with Hugh Jackman's Wolverine within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Both characters originally belonged to 21st Century Fox until Disney's acquisition in 2019 opened doors to their inclusion in the MCU.

Previously, Wolverine and Deadpool have graced several Marvel adaptations under Fox, with Deadpool starring in two self-titled hits: "Deadpool" and "Deadpool 2."

Reynolds, along with his character Deadpool, made an appearance in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine." This version of the "Merc with a Mouth" was notorious as the character's mouth was sewn shut, contradicting the original character's design.

On the other hand, Jackman's Wolverine was a mainstay in Fox's X-Men series, featuring in nine films since his debut in 2000's "X-Men." However, Jackman's tenure as Wolverine concluded in 2017's "Logan," when the character met his end.

The inclusion of both characters in the MCU signifies a significant milestone in Marvel President Kevin Feige's plans for upcoming films.

WARNING: SPOILERS FOR "DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE" AHEAD

In the final act of "Deadpool & Wolverine," the eponymous characters pursue Paradox, a primary antagonist in the film, to prevent Cassandra Nova from annihilating the multiverse. As they attempt to thwart Nova's plan to transform the multiverse into a barren void, Deadpool and Wolverine encounter hundreds of Deadpool variants.

These include Ladypool, portrayed by Reynolds' wife Blake Lively; Kidpool and Babypool, played by Inez and Olin Reynolds, respectively; Cowboypool, voiced by Matthew McConaughey; and Headpool, enacted by Nathan Fillion. There was also another Deadpool variant named Welshpool, sporting the Welsh flag on his chest, played by Mullin.

Both the original Deadpool and Wolverine mowed through the other variants with relative ease before realising they all share the same health regeneration factor, except Nicepool, who was brutally killed. At the end of the movie, Deadpool and Wolverine stop Nova, thus seemingly setting up a timeline where the X-Men and Avengers clash.
