Is it time for David Beckham to get a knighthood? Take our poll and have your say
David Beckham has long been thought of as a sir-in-waiting, but as the New Years Honours list reveals yet another snub, we ask - is it time for Becks to get a knighthood?
The New Years Honours list has been revealed with top gongs going to Gareth Southgate, Myleene Klass and Stephen Fry - but with David Beckham being snubbed yet again, we ask, do you think it's time the football star was given a knighthood?
Southgate, who becomes Sir Gareth Southgate for his services to football, was one of the notable faces to be named in the honours list alongside London Mayor Sadiq Khan, Labour MP Emily Thornberry and rugby legend Gerald Davies. Actors Sarah Lancashire, Anne-Marie Duff, Anne Reid, Kevin Whately and Dr Who star Tom Baker also received gongs in the list.
However, seven years after leaked emails revealed he savaged the committee for omitting him from the list, Beckham was once again absent when this year's honours were announced last night. The household name, who is one of the most recognisable faces in British sport, has often been thought as a sir-in-waiting due to his services to football.
In 2017, shocking emails from Beckham were leaked, revealing his fury at the New Years honours committee and possibly setting him back in his pursuit of a knighthood. The football star is said to have branded the committee "unappreciative c***s" and added that he "didn't care about being knighted" - though the ex-midfielder has claimed some of the leaked emails had been doctored.

The leaked emails claim the former footballer said: "I expected nothing less. It’s a disgrace to be honest and if I was American I would of got something like this 10 years ago." He is also reported to have slammed opera star Katherine Jenkins after she was given an OBE. "Katherine Jenkins OBE for what? Singing at the rugby and going to see the troops. F***ing joke."
Beckham's former England teammate Gareth Southgate was amongst those to receive a knighthood this year for his services for football. Previously, Sir Kenny Dalglish, Sir Alex Ferguson and Sir Bobby Robson have all been awarded similar gongs for their role in the sport.
Sportswoman Keely Hodgkinson was also appointed an OBE in this year's New Years Honours list, putting her on equal footing with Beckham, who was awarded an OBE for services to football by the Queen in June 2003. There was also an OBE for former Everton, Manchester United and West Ham boss David Moyes, and an MBE for Liverpool legend Alan Hansen.
Helen Glover, one of the country's greatest-ever rowers with more than 20 gold medals to her name, was honoured with an OBE in this year's list. Former F1 driver and sports presenter Martin Brundle was also named., while nine-time Paralympic champion Hannah Cockcroft has been made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE).
