Keely Hodgkinson set for £4m net worth boost after vying with Luke Littler for BBC SPOTY
Keely Hodgkinson is the odds-on favourite to win the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award on Tuesday evening and could be in for a huge financial boost if she does
Keely Hodgkinson is the hot favourite to scoop the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award for 2024 - and could earn a hefty payday to go with it.
The 22-year-old Team GB sensation took Paris 2024 by storm, leaving an indelible mark in the French capital. Following her 800m silver medal triumph at Tokyo 2021, she clinched gold in Paris this summer, winning over the hearts of British fans.
Now, thanks to her remarkable achievements, Hodgkinson is tipped as the clear frontrunner for the award, which was won by Lionesses star Mary Earps in 2023 and her team-mate Beth Mead the previous year. Her main rival is darts prodigy Luke Littler, who is the second favourite for the iconic gong.
But Hodgkinson's potential victory on Tuesday (17 December) evening might come with more than just the trophy. A sports finance expert predicts that she could earn a staggering £1million per year until the next Olympic Games in 2028, courtesy of her expected SPOTY success.

"Now she has managed to grab the gold, she can expect a stellar relationship with brands, marketing agencies, and UK Athletics, becoming a poster athlete for endorsements and associated commercial activities.
"A Sports Personality of the Year win would only serve to amplify this reputation further. She will be looking at earnings surpassing £1m per year over the next Olympic cycle."
In November, it was believed that Hodgkinson's net worth stood at around £250,000, with the athlete pocketing at least £39,000 for her gold medal triumph at the Paris Olympics, reports the Express.
Now, as the 800m sensation is poised to possibly clinch the prestigious SPOTY award and potentially become the fourth consecutive female recipient, she looks set to emerge as the new face of UK athletics, along with the accompanying financial perks.
However, Hodgkinson was initially oblivious to her nomination, as she revealed to Stylist: "It was actually my mum who told me [I'd been nominated] because I'm in South Africa.
"My whole family is just really happy. It's been one of the best years ever, and to finish it off with a SPOTY nomination is the perfect ending. It’s a nice moment for all of us to come together and celebrate – we celebrated plenty in Paris, but this will be great.
"In an Olympic year, there are always loads of athletes who deserve to be chosen, so it feels really great to be nominated alongside all the other amazing athletes.
"When you watch SPOTY it’s always really nice to hear the other nominees’ stories and see parents talk about their children and what they did for them growing up, so I’m looking forward to hearing those stories."
