Freeview issues UK alert that could stop you from watching TV this weekend

Freeview is warning UK homes that may face disruption due to the weather.

If your Freeview-powered TV is having issues this weekend you are not alone. It appears that the current weather conditions hovering over Britain are causing problems for the all-important signals that beam shows, sporting action and movies into living rooms.

That means there could be some serious disruption when settling down for some time in front of the telly over the next few days. The complications are being caused by high pressure that will remain in our skies of the UK until Monday.

As the BBC explains, "High pressure can cause two potential problems. The first is that you receive a weaker signal, as the signal from your local transmitter is lifted higher into the sky. The second is that the signal from a distant transmitter interferes with your reception."

Freeview says it's vital that users don't start trying to retune their set-top devices or screens as this will simply take time and not improve the picture quality.

"Freeview viewers across parts of England and Wales could see some disruption to their TV reception between Friday 30th August and Sunday 1st September," Freeview confirmed.

"This is due to high pressure which could disrupt the TV signals which Freeview uses.

"You are advised not to retune your TV during this time - reception will be restored once the high pressure passes."

If you have an internet-connected telly you can watch live and on-demand content via Freeview Play by using apps such as iPlayer and ITVX.

These services all use the web to beam content into homes and are not affected by the weather.

Alternatively, Freeview recommends tuning into entertainment via its mobile app instead. This service is available to download for free from app stores such as Apple and Google Play.
