Man compares first iPhone to latest model and subtle detail makes it so different

Whether you had the first-generation iPhone or not, you'll likely remember the hype around it, and it's clear to see how much the Apple product has changed over the years

Remember when the very first iPhone came out in 2007 and it was the latest in cutting-edge tech? Those were the days. The days of the iPhone 1. Adjusted for inflation, the first-generation iPhone would cost £374 - compared to more than £1,000 for the iPhone 17 Pro, Apple's latest model. But how much have Apple phones really changed over the years?

TikToker @anothertech7 compared the oldest model to the newest, and the first difference you'll notice is their size. The First Generation Apple iPhone has a height of 4.53 inches (115 mm), a width of 2.40 inches (61 mm), and a depth of 0.3 inches (7.6 mm). By today's standards, it's absolutely tiny.

Now, the iPhone 17 Pro has a height of 150 mm (5.91 inches), a width of 71.9 mm (2.83 inches) and a depth of 8.75mm (0.34 inches).

Another immediate difference you'll notice is that the original iPhone had a button at the bottom of it to press when you wanted to use it. In 2017, Apple began phasing out the physical Home button with the launch of the iPhone X.

Face ID and swipe navigation gestures replaced the physical button.

When @anothertech7 opened the phones, he saw the apps looked relatively similar - reflective of Apple's timeless brand that has spanned the decades.

Of course, now, you can have widgets on your home screen, highlighting important things you want to make bigger.

The iPhone 1 had a back cover made out of aluminium and was the first mobile phone with multi-touch technology.

It looked quite basic, with a black line all around the bottom, and is a far cry from the more modern aesthetic that we've come to know and love.

The iPhone 17 Pro is made from a heat-forged aluminium unibody enclosure and features Ceramic Shield 2 for the front and back glass.

In the comments, someone accused the iPhone of being the "same" as it always has been, but it's quite clear to see from the video comparison that it's changed over the years quite significantly.

X user @appletechguy took to the social media platform to praise the latest iPhone, saying that he was really impressed "after one month with the iPhone 17 Pro Max".

He wrote: "Here are some things I have noticed. Battery life is SO good - haven’t felt this good about a battery in an iPhone since the 13 Pro Max. Cellular connectivity has been massively improved. The new 18MP front-facing camera is really great.

"The new vapour chamber x aluminium unibody design makes a HUGE difference to performance and cooling. Cosmic Orange is the best colour".
