UK Sky rival gets a blockbuster update and still lets you watch TV for free

UK TV service Freely has just had an update as it tries to offer a true rival to Sky.

Sky remains in pole position when it comes to offering the best TV service but one of its rivals is trying hard to catch up. Freely is just like Sky's Glass TV with it coming built into screens and offering an instant way to watch live and on-demand content via the web rather than a satellite dish or aerial.

Other similarities between Glass and Freely include the ability to pause live TV, see what's on now and next via a full TV guide, and get on-screen recommendations for things to watch.

Of course one of the main benefits of Freely is that it's totally free to use and now the team behind the service is adding a new feature to help make it sound more appealing.

Users are now being offered a ‘My List’ function which lets them add up to 50 of their favourite shows to a dedicated rail on the homepage. The idea behind this is that it should make it much easier to find endless episodes of the things that are watched the most such The Traitors, EastEnders, Coronation Street and Love Island.

Explainin more, the Freely team said: "The new function allows users to select 50 of their favourite titles from Freely’s incredible catalogue, across 11 different players, to be added to a dedicated rail on the homepage, eliminating the need to tirelessly scroll through menus or search for a specific show," the Freely team explained.

Freely says this is the "first step" towards viewer personalisation with "many more exciting updates and features" to follow later this year.

Along with the new ‘My List’ function, Freely has recently added more channels.

At launch, there were only around 20 channels to view via this online platform, but that has now increased to over 40.

New things to view include content from AMC Networks International UK (AMCNI UK), PBS America, GB News and QVC.

The new partnerships brings the total line-up to over 40 streamed live channels seamlessly integrated with 74,000 hours of on demand content from eleven different players.

HERE ARE ALL THE NEW CHANNELS NOW AVAILABLE TO FREELY

TRUE CRIME - Ch 37

LEGEND – Ch 38

PBS America – Ch 49

TRUE CRIME Xtra – Ch 50

LEGEND Xtra - Ch 51

GB News - Ch 304
