Caribbean island Montserrat launches new visa for remote workers
The Caribbean island of Montserrat has launched a new visa allowing remote workers to come and stay for up to a year
Living somewhere hot and sunny with beautiful beaches feels more appealing than ever before - and one Caribbean island is offering remote workers the option to do just that.
Montserrat has just unveiled a brand new visa for remote workers which allows you to come and live on the island for 12 months, and do your current job while soaking up the sunshine.
It joins a list of glamorous destinations offering visas for remote workers - including other Caribbean islands such as Antigua and Barbuda, and Anguilla.
The island's tourism authorities say that it "will give professionals and entrepreneurs the opportunity to experience a unique work-life-vacation balance on one of the Caribbean’s most stand-out destinations".

The volcanic landscape means that you can expect the likes of breathtaking black sand beaches and heaps of lush green landscape filled with eye-catching plants and quirky wildlife.
There are also plenty of hiking trails whether you're looking to explore the natural landscape, or make the trek higher up in the valleys to enjoy some breathtaking panoramics from the viewing platforms.
According to the Foreign Office: "Around one third of the island is virtually unaffected by volcanic activity. The other two-thirds are vulnerable. The Soufriere Hills Volcano has been active since 1995. However, there has been no major volcanic activity since February 2010." (You can find out more in the Foreign Office advice here ).
Application fees are $500 (approx £366) for individuals, or $750 (approx £549) for individuals accompanied by a maximum of three family members.
Those who want to apply will also need to meet certain criteria such as showing proof of full-time employment, an annual income of minimum $70,000 USD (approx £51,325) and health insurance for themselves and any family members.

Montserrat’s Deputy Premier Dr. Hon. Samuel Joseph said in a statement: "The global pandemic has changed how we live and work, and as multinationals and leading startups across the world accelerate their rates of digital adoption, the need to be physically present to fulfil professional responsibilities has been redefined.
"We know there are people in various parts of the world who now have the ability to work from home and are actively looking for a change of environment. The remote worker programme is not only inviting but encouraging them to come to Montserrat to work and at the same time be more than a visitor but a part of the community on one of the world’s most unique destinations."
