Stop rolling your clothes - this 1 packing tip helps you fit more into your luggage

If you're struggling to fit everything into your suitcase, there's one simple change you can make to your packing technique that will save you a lot of space

One of the biggest hurdles when planning an overseas trip is trying to squeeze all your belongings into the airline's meagre luggage allowance.

If you're aiming to travel light, sticking to cabin bag limits can be a real headache - but there's one simple travel tip that could free up some much-needed space in your bag.

A popular method for saving space is rolling your clothes, but there's another technique that might prove even more effective.

The KonMari folding method, popularised by Marie Kondo, involves folding your garments into rectangles that stand upright next to each other in your suitcase, thus saving space.

How to pack more into a suitcase

  • To use this method, take your item of clothing and fold one side to the middle, then the other side over it, creating a rectangle
  • Then, fold it in half lengthways
  • From here, fold it into thirds, until it’s a small rectangle that can be slotted in alongside other items

It's also a good idea to ditch large, bulky toiletries like shampoo and body wash as most hotels will supply these at no extra cost. If you're going on a lengthy trip abroad, consider purchasing these items upon arrival to save suitcase space.

Alternatively, many hotels are happy to accept online deliveries prior to your stay, allowing you to order your bathroom essentials to arrive before you do. It's a straightforward way to travel lighter and avoid overpacking products you may not even use, reports the Express.

Investing in jewellery and cable organisers is also a wise move. These will keep your items safe and untangled, preventing you from having to rummage through your suitcase to find what you need.
