Iconic noughties series in huge revival update as creator reveals 'truth of matter'

An iconic noughties television series that kept us all glued to the edge of our seats could be coming back to our screens but not in the way you might think

Desperate Housewives captivated the world in the noughties when it aired for eight seasons from 2004 to 2012.

After twelve years off our screens, fans have been longing for the iconic show to return and now creator Marc Cherry has shared an important update about a potential revival.

However, rather than bringing the show back in the way we know and love it, Marc is considering a prequel series.

He told People: "I would probably want to do the idea maybe in an earlier decade. Because the character I miss writing the most is actually Wisteria Lane.

"That was the most fun playground anyone in the history of television has ever had, because we owned the whole street.

"And there’s times when I go, ‘You know what? I wonder if I could write Wisteria Lane in like, 1966.'"

After revealing he's been asked about a reboot thousands of times, he divulged: "The truth of the matter is that I have a couple of ideas to do it.

"I feel like if I ever got a chance to do that show again, I’d be better at the job. I learned so much.

"If you do a reboot, you have to have a really good artistic reason to do it. And at some point, I’ll sit down with someone and go, ‘Okay, let’s talk about if there’s a good enough 'why' to do it,'."

Desperate Housewives began back in 2004 and starred Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross, Eva Longoria, Nicollette Sheridan and later, Vanessa Williams in lead roles.

The show was set on a fictional street called Wisteria Lane and followed the lives of a group of women as seen through the eyes of their friend and neighbour takes their own life in the pilot episode.

As well as this, the group of friends work through their family struggles as well as dealing with the secrets and mysteries hidden behind closed doors in the seemingly perfect suburban neighbourhood.

The series was well-received by the audiences and critics and won plenty of accolades in its eight-year run. Desperate Housewives won multiple awards including Primetime Emmy's, Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Awards.
