Apple TV+ has announced a price increase for its monthly subscription, affecting viewers who enjoy the tech giant's popular series including Severance, Slow Horses and The Morning Show. However, customers on an annual payment plan will not be impacted by the rise, it has been confirmed.
The price hike, impacting users globally, will raise monthly costs by £1 to £9.99. In the US, prices are increasing by $3, rising from $9.99 to $12.99 per month, according to Tech Advisor. Apple told BBC News that while the new price applies to new users immediately, existing subscribers will have up to 30 days after their next renewal before the higher rate takes effect.
The BBC highlights that with these new prices in place, it means an Apple TV+ monthly subscription is now double the price it was when it first launched in November 2019 in the UK. "Since its launch, Apple TV+ has expanded its deep library of hundreds of Apple Originals, with thousands of hours of premium programming across genres and brand-new releases weekly – all ad-free," an Apple spokesperson said.
In February this year, Netflix also increased its subscription prices in the UK, raising the cost of the Standard plan without adverts by £2, bringing the monthly total to £12.99.

Apple explain that prices vary depending on which offer you choose. It says: "(1) If you buy an Apple device, Apple TV+ is included free for three months.
"(2) A monthly subscription is just £9.99 per month after a free seven-day trial. (3) Apple TV+ is included in Apple One, which bundles up to five other Apple services into a single monthly subscription.
"Apple One plans start from £18.95 per month. (4) The Apple Music Student Plan comes with a free subscription to Apple TV+."
