Fans fuel Timothée Chalamet Oscar buzz as new Bob Dylan film trailer drops
Timothée Chalamet has won fans over in the latest trailer for his upcoming Bob Dylan biopic, with some predicting the role will land him an Oscar.
The trailer for Timothée Chalamet's upcoming Bob Dylan film, A Complete Unknown, has just landed and fans are convinced the actor is gunning for an Oscar.
Released on Tuesday (October 8), the two-minute video sees the 28-year-old actor arriving in New York City with his guitar, as Dylan did at just 19 years old.
The trailer then shows glimpses of his career growth, including a budding romance with his girlfriend, portrayed by Elle Fanning.
The film, directed by James Mangold, also stars Edward Norton, Monica Barbaro, Boyd Holbrook, Scoot McNairy, Dan Fogler and Norbert Leo Butz.
Slated for a Christmas Day release in America, the official synopsis reads: "Set in the influential New York music scene of the early ’60s, A Complete Unknown follows 19-year-old Minnesota musician Bob Dylan’s meteoric rise as a folk singer to concert halls and the top of the charts — his songs and mystique becoming a worldwide sensation — culminating in his ground-breaking electric rock and roll performance at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965."
UK viewers are set to see the film in cinemas on 17 January 2025.
After tuning into the trailer, fans have been floored by the Dune star's performance, with many crowing it Oscar-worthy.
On YouTube, one user penned: "Timothée is likely gonna get an Oscar nomination and win for this role. The man is a talented actor. I was rooting for him when he got nominated for Call Me By Your Name."
A second agreed: "I smell [a] best actor Oscar." With a third chiming in: "Timothée gunning for that Oscar!"
Yet another agreed: "The Bob Dylan impression was way better than I expected. [Hoping] to see this bringing Timothée back to the Oscars."
On X, formerly Twitter, fans were divided. Some have praised the trailer. One wrote: "Timothée Chalamet is easily one of the best actors on the planet right now, he has Dylan down to an absolute tee here, potential Oscar incoming."
Others were quick to slam the actor. One disappointed movie-goer said: "God the first trailer was so much better... this just looks like a parody movie."
While another quipped: "I actually liked the first trailer but this seems waay more like Timmy doing Dylan for Halloween...We'll see I guess." One more simply wrote: "Oh dear hahaha." (sic)
If nominated, this would mark the actor's second Academy Award nomination. In 2018 he was up for the Best Actor award for his role in Luca Guadagnino's Call Me By Your Name.
A Complete Unknown will be released in UK cinemas on January 17, 2025.
