1923 viewers admit they 'want to stop watching' after staggering number of 'brutal' deaths

The Yellowstone prequel has once again sparked backlash from fans for its latest brutal episode

Warning - this article contains major spoilers for 1923 season 2

Fans of 1923 have been left reeling after the latest episode of season two, which saw a shocking seven main characters meet their end.

The second season of Taylor Sheridan's popular Yellowstone prequel on Paramount+ is well underway, with its sixth episode broadcasted on Sunday, 30th March.

This week's penultimate episode, aptly named The Mountain Teeth of Monsters, found Spencer Dutton (played by Brandon Sklenar) and Alexandra Dutton (Julia Schlaepfer) still desperately trying to reunite.

Alex's travel companions Paul (Augustus Prew) and Hillary (Janet Montgomery) fell victim to the harsh cold, leaving her alone, while Spencer's nephew Jack Dutton (Darren Mann) also met a gruesome end, reports the Irish Mirror.

Despite Jacob's (Harrison Ford) orders to stay home and look after his pregnant wife Elizabeth (Michelle Randolph), Jack rushes to assist Jacob in defending the ranch but is killed by Livestock Agents Clyde (Brian Konowal) and Alec (Colt Brown) en route.

Teonna Rainwater (Aminah Nieves) was at the heart of the most violent storyline this episode, as the search for her continued following her escape from her cruel school by killing several of her nun teachers.

Sadly, her father Runs His Horse (Michael Spears) was murdered by her sadistic headmaster Father Renaud (Sebastian Roché), and it was also revealed that Pete Plenty Clouds (Jeremy Gauna) was killed by Marshal Kent (Jamie McShane), who was subsequently taken down by Renaud.

Teonna finally avenged her father's death by delivering a savage end to Renaud in one of the harshest death scenes 1923 has showcased so far - she hurled scalding coals at his face before ferociously stabbing him multiple times and ultimately using her father’s gun to finish the deed.

The episode stirred up a storm of reactions online, with viewers divided over its graphic nature.

A displeased viewer vented on X (formerly Twitter): "I've been enjoying this series, but I would have been better off skipping this week's episode.

"It was depressing with so many main characters getting killed off. And seriously, why include that sadistic voyeurism in the show?"

Taking it a step further, another individual pointed fingers, posting: "Taylor Sheridan is public enemy number 1 after that episode of 1923. Wtf."

Shocked by the character body count, another fan commented: "Wow! 7 characters dead in one episode is crazy, and only 2 of them were bad. This was depressing."

Some viewers are now reconsidering the show, with one sharing: "1923 is a tough watch, to the point that I might stop. It's just death and disaster piling up constantly."

Venting frustration, an upset fan wrote: "Spoiler Alert: 1923 is a waste of time. Nothing good happens.

"Everyone good dies and evil continues to prevail. The story is dragging on and you can predict the next tragedy. It's actually becoming a game to name the next horrific death."

However, the series did find some defenders among viewers, with one fan standing up for the show: "#1923 has been amazing this season...non stop...no filler...amazing character development...it's what #Yellowstone was in the first 4 seasons.."
