28 Years Later fans stunned as 'creepy' Teletubbies make surprise appearance in trailer

A harrowing scene featuring kids TV show Teletubbies set fans of 28 Years Later into overdrive as the latest trailer for the horror film was released

TV fans were stunned to see Teletubbies make a surprise appearance in the trailer for 28 Years Later.

Danny Boyle's latest post-apocalyptic horror film teased gripping scenes in Tuesday's trailer release. However, the inclusion of the huge kids' TV show took many fans aback.

The third instalment of the horror is set to hit the big screen in June next year. It will features stars such as Cillian Murphy, Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ralph Fiennes and Jack O'Connell. And while fans can't wait for the gory elements to return, the inclusion of Teletubbies was a main talking point.

The scene in question saw a group of young kids watching the series before things took a huge turn for the worse. Footage that followed showed splashes of blood across the television set. And fans were quick to reference the moment on social media.

One Twitter/X user joked: "Finally a team who understands how creepy Teletubbies is," while another said: "The trailer for #28YearsLater opening up with the hecking Teletubbies is peak British I am HYPED for this movie!'"

A third praised as they shared an image of the blood-smeared screen: "For those too young to remember, the Teletubbies were scary AF, so this image from the #28YearsLater teaser is pretty on point!" And a fourth added: "THAT WAS SUCH AN ICONIC TRAILER THO the beginning with the Teletubbies making it all cute and funny but then the progressive horror with the repetitive sound????? CHEF KISS, AMAZING, 10/10, THEY DON'T MAKE TRAILERS LIKE THIS ANYMORE #28YearsLater seems promising!!!"

The film is the sequel to the 2002 offering titled 28 Days Later, and the 2007 movie called 28 Weeks Later. Such is the film's anticipation that a part two is already in the pipeline. 28 Years Later Part II: The Bone Temple is set to be directed by The Marvels' Nia DaCosta.

It was revealed last month that the upcoming flick has been filmed using an iPhone. Slated for release in June next year, the story will follow a young boy in the north of England who is trying to save his mother. The film's poster bears the tagline "Time didn't heal anything" against a backdrop of skulls in the shape of a biohazard symbol.

While Cillian's involvement had been shrouded in mystery, it was confirmed by Sony's chairman. When asked if Cillian would be in the cast, Sony Motion Pictures Group chairman Tom Rothman told Deadline: "Yes, but in a surprising way and in a way that grows, let me put it that way... This is Danny (Boyle) at his best, combined with a very commercial genre, like we had with Edgar Wright and Baby Driver. Sometimes when you put a real signature director into a commercial arena, it elevates it."
