Amazon Prime Video August releases from Rings of Power to new John Cena film
The Lord of the Rings prequel series will be the main draw for many Prime Video subscribers in August but there are plenty more TV shows and films to binge watch over the month
August will see the hotly anticipated release of the latest season of Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power and a new film starring WWE legend John Cena.
July saw multiple new series released on Prime Video including Sir Anthony Hopkins’s Roman epic Those About to Die and the latest series of The Boys.
More series to binge-watch and films to check out are coming to Prime Video throughout August, including Awkwafina and John Cena starring in Jackpot, a new animated Batman series and One Fast Move.
Yet the biggest new TV series of the month - and maybe even the Summer - is the release of the second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
Set millennia before the events of the beloved Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films, delves into the creation of the Rings of Power, an alliance between Elves and Men, and the ascension of the Dark Lord Sauron. Season 2, which will focus on the rise of Sauron, will release new episodes weekly from August 29.
The second series will also welcome back many fan-favourite characters, including Galadriel, Elrond, Prince Durin IV, Arondir, and Celebrimbor and the eagerly awaited creation of more Rings.

Elsewhere on Prime Video, The Mallorca Files will be released exclusively on its new home of Prime Video and Freely on August 8.
More than three years after the second season of The Mallorca Files debuted on BBC One, Welsh detective Miranda Blake and her German partner Max Winter will feature "high-stakes adventures, treasure hunts, arson, kidnappings, and murders".
A new animated series Batman: Caped Crusader, which will be released on August 1, will offer a fresh look at the Dark Knight, backed by The Batman (2022) director Matt Reeves as an executive producer. The series has attracted some attention for featuring a gender-swapped Penguin as well as tweak some other characters.
Amazon Studios original movie, One Fast Move, will see an action-adventure thrill ride about a young man down who seeks out his estranged father to help him pursue his dream of becoming a professional motorcycle racer.
