Ashton Kutcher returning to TV after controversial comments on Diddy's parties resurface

Ashton Kutcher refused to talk about Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ parties during an interview in September 2019, and his comments resurfaced following the disgraced rapper’s arrest

Ashton Kutcher is returning to TV after his controversial comments on Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ parties resurfaced.

The 46-year-old’s name has been linked to the infamous parties hosted by the rapper, but there is no indication the That 70s Show star has been involved in any illegal activities. Since Diddy’s arrest last month, Ashton’s interactions with the rapper and music mogul have resurfaced, and an awkward interview from 2019 emerged, showing Ashton squirming as he refused to comment on attending Diddy’s parties over the years.

Despite the rumours, Ashton has landed a lead role in an upcoming new series, created by Ryan Murphy, and is based on the 2016 comic book series The Beauty. The show, which also stars Evan Peters, Anthony Ramos and Jeremy Pope, will focus on two detectives who are investigating the outbreak of a sexually transmitted disease (STD) that makes the infected beautiful. The virus has spread throughout the US, leaving half the population infected, with many people contracting the disease on purpose to improve their appearance.

The detectives later learn that the STD is fatal, and could have been introduced to the population as part of a secret government plot. While no cast details have been released, it is believed Ashton will play a tech billionaire, while American Horror Story star Evan will play one of the detectives, according to Deadline. Production is reportedly due to begin in November, and the 11-episode first season may debut next year.

This will mark Ashton’s biggest TV role to date since he slunk away from the spotlight to focus on more philanthropic endeavours with his wife Mila Kunis. He last appeared in The ranch for four seasons, and reprised his role as Kelso on That 90s Show. Ashton’s last movie was the romantic comedy Your Place or Mine with Reese Witherspoon in 2023, which was panned by critics.

His new casting comes after an awkward clip of Ashton resurfaced, showing him visibly uncomfortable as he deflects questions about Diddy’s infamous parties. The father-of-two appeared on Hot Ones back in September 2019, and he told host Sean Evans: “I’ve got a lot I can’t tell. So, uh. Can’t tell that one, either. I’m actually cycling through them. Diddy party stories, man - that was some weird memory lane thing,” he laughed.

Ashton’s comments have been pounced on by wannabe social media detectives since Diddy’s arrest, but the actor played down his relationship with the rapper. Speaking on Hot Ones, he said his friendship with Diddy began when the music mogul banned him from ever featuring him on his show Punk’d. “I was like, ‘I don’t know what to tell you; everybody’s on the table.’ He’s like, ‘Not me. I’m off the table.’ So that started our conversation,” he explained.
