Babygirl star confesses 'disturbing’ scenes were cut from erotic thriller
Nicole Kidman has opened up about filming her upcoming thriller, Babygirl, confessing that the production process was emotionally taxing.
Nicole Kidman has revealed the difficulties she faced while shooting her forthcoming thriller, Babygirl. The star admitted that some "emotionally disturbing" scenes didn't make it into the movie's final cut. The star shared her experiences during a chat with Zendaya on Friday for Variety's Actors on Actors video series.
Variety annually invites industry talents to converse about their latest work. This edition has already seen talks involving Angelina Jolie, Andrew Garfield, and Saoirse Ronan, with sessions with Pamela Anderson and Kate Winslet still to come.
The Oscar-winning actress discussed her role in the talked-about erotic film Babygirl, which has intrigued fans since its trailer release in October.
As the duo discussed Zendaya's experience on HBO's Euphoria, Kidman got candid about Babygirl's "intense" filming process.
She explained: "It was very intense on Babygirl, and there were parts of Babygirl that are not now in the film but that fed into it [the emotional exhaustion] that we shot. It was exhausting, but it was also just emotionally disturbing," reports OK!.
The drama, which carries an R rating, casts Kidman as a formidable CEO whose affair with her intern could shatter her family and career. Harris Dickinson stars as her young lover, alongside Antonio Banderas and Sophie Wilde in supporting roles.
The Oscar-winning star opened up about the toll of her intense roles, including her part in Reese Witherspoon's Big Little Lies series. She admitted the lines between reality and acting blurred, saying: "And then the same when I was doing Big Little Lies because that was disturbing to my body and my psyche. Because I couldn't tell what was real and what wasn't."
In the show, she takes on the harrowing role of a domestic abuse survivor.
Kidman candidly described her post-role routine as a cleansing process, sharing insights into her personal practices: "I clean my chakras and pray and get out the sage, honestly I'm like I'll take whatever so that I can step into the next place free and not scarred or damaged or wounded. Which sounds like I'm bats*** crazy but I'm not."
Helmed by Dutch filmmaker Halina Reijn, the seductive thriller was cheekily coined as the "naughtiest film of the year" by an enthusiast on X, previously known as Twitter, following its tantalising trailer release, which had some viewers confessing it made them "blushing."
Babygirl comes to UK cinemas on January 10
