BBC announces Celebrity Traitors and the commission of a fourth series

The celebrity version of The Traitors will be hosted by Claudia Winkleman and may feature super fans including Kathy Burke and Jonathan Ross. It will air after the third series

BBC bosses have finally confirmed that a celebrity version of The Traitors will hit the screen next year.

The spin-off show, first revealed by The Mirror after the first series proved a smash hit in December 2022, will feature some of the original’s many famous fans and will again be hosted by Claudia Winkleman. And the psychological game show has also been ordered for a fourth series, to air in 2026.

The star version, which may feature super fans who include Kathy Burke and Jonathan Ross, will air after the third series airs in January. It will again be filmed from the castle nestled against the backdrop of the Scottish Highlands.

Announcing the commission today, BBC unscripted boss Kate Phillips said she was already looking forward to seeing the stars fare badly on the show. “The people we’ve spoken to, presenters, actors, experts - they all think they can play the game. That’s the joy of the format - they come in thinking ‘I’ve seen it, I canal it.’ I’m really looking forward to celebrities making huge mistakes and falling on their swords.

“I think it will be great fun.” The second series, which aired in January, generated a huge 46m views on BBC iPlayer with an average of 8.1m views per episode. The Traitors continues to be the biggest new entertainment brand for viewers aged 16 to 34.

BBC Entertainment Head Kalpna Patel-Knight said today: “The Traitors has well and truly established itself as an unmissable highlight of the year and the news of a fourth outing, alongside a brand new celebrity version coming to the BBC, will take the series to a whole new level. It will once again be fascinating for our audiences to see who’ll outwit, outplay, and outlast. Let the mind games begin!"

Mike Cotton, Creative Director at production company Studio Lambert said he was thrilled to land the starry version. He added: “We are thrilled to be inviting some celebrities into our castle to come and play the game. Seeing famous faces navigate the round table or don the infamous green cloaks will be unmissable TV.
