BBC confirm release date for Karen Pirie star's new psychological drama

The Ridge is a six-part series which follows Mia, whose career has fallen apart due to addiction

Whilst Outlander enthusiasts await the eighth and final series, they can catch Marsali Fraser star Lauren Lyle in a gripping new psychological thriller.

The Ridge is a six-episode drama following Mia, whose professional life has crumbled due to addiction issues.

She travels to New Zealand for her estranged sister's nuptials, only to discover upon arrival that her sister has died.

Mia becomes drawn into the local community and uncovers that everyone connected to her sister harbours secrets they're desperate to conceal.

Additionally, Mia develops feelings for her sister's fiancé Ewan, hinting at considerable turmoil lying ahead, reports the Daily Record.

The programme debuts on Tuesday 21 October in the UK via BBC iPlayer and BBC Scotland. BBC Two will broadcast the series across the UK from Thursday 23 October.

The cast features Lauren alongside New Zealand actor Jay Ryan as Ewan, plus Dulcie Smart, Florence Hartigan, Chloe Parker, David Van Horn, Taqi Nazeer, Claire Dargo and Cora Bissett.

Filming took place across both New Zealand and Scotland, with Lauren delighted to jet off for the part.

Chatting to Radio Times in February when production was revealed, Lauren revealed: "Mia is such a fascinating character in a very weird world which is quite delicious to play.

"It feels like something very bad is going to play out... in a good way! New Zealand is also a second home to me so it's a joy to be back."

Gavin Smith, the commissioning editor for BBC Scotland, praised the show as "an example of our ambition to look beyond borders to bring high end quality drama to audiences not just in Scotland but across the world".

He further stated: "The Ridge has a first class international team bringing it to life which we are proud to be a part of."

This follows Lauren's recent leading role in the second series of Karen Pirie and her upcoming appearance on stage at the Soho Theatre in Most Favoured.
