Big Brother fans threaten to 'cancel subscriptions'
Big Brother fans in Ireland are threatening to cancel their Virgin Media subscriptions after the channel clarified that it won't be airing it despite broadcasting it in the past
Big Brother fans have been left fuming after Virgin Media confirmed that it won't be airing the 2025 series in Ireland this year. The ITV show has aired on Virgin Media Ireland since 2015, when the broadcaster acquired the rights to air it in Ireland.
Ahead of the 2025 series, Virgin Media has announced that it will not be airing the ITV2 reality series for the first since it acquired the rights. Writing on X, the Virgin Media account said: "In case you’ve heard otherwise:—Virgin Media will not be airing Big Brother this season.
"We know there’s been some confusion, and we appreciate your understanding. We’re focusing on fresh new content we think you’ll love. Stay tuned!"
Meanwhile, the Virgin Media IE account also shared the news, writing: "Virgin Media will not be airing Big Brother this season. We know there’s been some confusion, and we appreciate your understanding. We’re focusing on fresh new content we think you’ll love. Stay tuned!"
Virgin Media Two, which was previously the home of Big Brother, will instead be airing the Love Island Games in its place. The American series, hosted by Ariana Madix, sees contestants from various Love Island international series compete in a series of challenges as they attempt to find romance again.
Fans have hit back at the news, with some even threatening to cancel their Virgin Media subscriptions in protest. "Canceling my virgin subscription this is a p**s take," one wrote.
Another said: "I’m sorry?????? Nobody wants fresh new content in the form of love island GAMES. THEY WANT BIG BROTHER?!?!?!?!? #BBUK @VirginMedia_TV sort this out!! @ITVX."
A third wrote on X: "I mean don't be dissing LI-Games because it's actually been pretty good so far, but I do have to agree with you. Viewers have made it pretty damn clear they want #BBUK and I'm like this is just Ch5 all over again."
"'fresh new content' and they don’t include the new series of one of the biggest reality shows in that content absolute joke," a fourth said.
Another asked why it wasn't airing on another Virgin channel, writing: "@VirginMedia_TV @VirginMediaIE why are you not showing big brother this year?? You have three channels, you could have put it on Virgin 3 for all I cared!"
Big Brother will air in the UK on ITV2, with hosts AJ Odudu and Will Best returning to host the show's third series.
