Bosch prequel in the works with Shameless and Power actors confirmed
A Bosch prequel has been confirmed by MGM+ and will see a young Harry Bosch take to the streets of Los Angeles.
A Bosch prequel has been given the green light with its two leading actors, including who will play a young Harry Bosch, already revealed.
Adapting author Michael Connelly's bestselling novels, Prime Video's Bosch chronicled Detective Harry Bosch's cases across seven series before getting axed in 2021.
However, this wasn't the finale for Bosch's story as the franchise made a comeback a year later with spin-off Bosch: Legacy, seeing Harry hang up his badge to work as a private detective.
Prime Video viewers were then delighted to witness actor Titus Welliver return once again in the drama Ballard, which adapts another of Connelly's works.
Now, MGM+ has announced there's still plenty more in store from the Bosch universe with a prequel in development called Bosch: Start to Watch.
The Bosch prequel will transport viewers back to 1991 Los Angeles featuring a 26-year-old Harry Bosch during his rookie police days.
MGM+ has revealed the series will "explore a city on the edge, teeming with racial tension, gang violence, and a fractured LAPD."
During this turbulent era, Bosch will become entangled in a major heist and a "web of criminal corruption that will test his loyalty to the badge".
Alongside the prequel confirmation, the streaming service has announced that actor Cameron Monaghan will be stepping into Welliver's shoes as the younger Harry Bosch.
Monaghan is renowned for his decade-long portrayal of Ian Gallagher in the American adaptation of Shameless.
His other standout roles include appearances in Click alongside Adam Sandler, Gotham, and most recently, the science fiction action picture Tron: Ares.
Monaghan won't be the sole recognisable face fronting the Bosch: Start to Watch cast, with Omari Hardwick also joining the lineup - best known for his role as James "Ghost" St Patrick in the gritty crime series Power.
Hardwick is slated to play seasoned officer Eli Bridges, a fresh character who hasn't featured in Connelly's previous works.
However, viewers will need to exercise patience as the prequel won't hit screens for some time, with filming scheduled to commence in Los Angeles during 2026.
Writer Connelly remarked: "I'm deeply grateful to Michael Wright and the team at MGM+ for championing this next chapter in Bosch's journey with such remarkable care and integrity.
"Being able to see how Harry Bosch became the man we have loved for 10 seasons is a gift to me and his many fans.
"I can't wait to dig in with Cameron and the writers to explore this uncharted character territory."
Bosch: Start to Watch will be available on MGM+.
