Every Blue Bloods star that is returning for Boston Blue spin-off

Boston Blue is returning in a matter of days with fans eager to see some familiar faces from the Blue Bloods universe.

Blue Bloods spin-off Boston Blue is almost ready to debut but who will be making their comeback?

Disappointingly, Blue Bloods came to an end after 14 seasons in December 2024, leaving both CBS fans and its cast heartbroken at saying their goodbyes.

But luckily, it didn’t take too long before its spin-off Boston Blue was announced which will follow the lives of two Blue Bloods originals.

So ahead of the drama’s big debut on Friday, October 17, here’s everyone so far who has been confirmed to return as well as the stars who have teased a cameo.

Blue Bloods stars returning for Boston Blue

Danny Reagan - Donnie Wahlberg

At the heart of this revival is Frank Reagan’s (played by Tom Selleck) eldest son Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) who leaves New York behind and starts again in Boston.

But how is he going to cope with the everyday difficulties of working on the police without the support of his law enforcement family around him?

Taking to Instagram to make the announcement earlier this year, Wahlberg wrote: “So excited to carry on the tradition, to share so many surprises, to answer some unanswered questions and to welcome all of you — to #BostonBlue!

“The next chapter in the #BlueBloods legacy begins. I can’t wait. See you CBS fall!”

Erin Reagan - Bridget Moynahan

It was confirmed back in July that Danny’s younger sister Erin Reagan, portrayed by actress Bridget Moynahan, will be featured in the first episode of Boston Blue.

As of yet, it isn’t clear if she will have a recurring role in the spin-off but it’s a good sign that she is going to help connect Boston Blue with the old fan-favourite universe.

After Blue Bloods was cancelled, Moynahan expressed the cast’s “disappointment” at it coming to an end, stating: “We’ve had such a good time. We all want to be there. It’s a real loss.

“This was our daily lives for 14 years. And we’ve all experienced together major life moments together, whether it’s births, deaths, marriages, divorces, illnesses, we’ve had it all together.”

Sean Reagan - Mika Amonsen

Danny’s son makes the move to Boston so he can start his career as a patrol officer for the Boston Police Department, explaining why Danny also potentially left the Big Apple behind.

While the character of Sean will be back, the actor who portrayed Sean in Blue Bloods, Andrew Terraciano, won’t be in the new series. Instead, Sean has been recast with horror film Whistle actor Mika Amonsen taking over the role.

These are the only three Blue Bloods characters that have been confirmed so far but numerous of the original stars have expressed interest in making an appearance.

In regards to Danny’s brother Jamie Reagan (Will Estes), Wahlberg hinted at him showing up in Boston, teasing on Instagram: “He’d better come visit his big brother”.

Eddie Janko-Reagan star Vanessa Ray told TV Insider last year that she would “do anything with these people”, referring to her co-stars.

She continued: “So, yes, of course. I don’t know what world it would make sense for Eddie to be in a spinoff at all.

“But if they need to put me in a wig and dye my eyebrows and I’ll play a different character just so I get to hang out with all of them more, then I’ll do it.”

Frank Reagan’s Tom Selleck also told Parade that he was “open to suggestions” in terms of reprising his role.

So it sounds like there’s a good chance that more Blue Bloods stars could be cropping up in Boston Blue’s near future.

Boston Blue premieres on Friday, October 17, on CBS.
