Call the Midwife's Helen George shares major update as new episode looms
Call the Midwife's icon Helen George has offered fans an exciting update ahead of the forthcoming Christmas special
Call the Midwife's Helen George has given fans a thrilling sneak peek ahead of the BBC period drama's comeback.
The 41-year-old star, who has portrayed Nurse Trixie Franklin since the show's inception in 2012, has taken viewers on a rollercoaster ride with her character. From battling alcoholism to becoming a committed wife and stepmother, Trixie's journey has been nothing short of dramatic.
Trixie finally married her dream man, Matthew Aylward (portrayed by Olly Rix), at the close of season 12, but their marital bliss was short-lived. Financial woes plagued the couple early into their marriage due to Matthew's ill-advised decisions, leading him to suggest that Trixie abandon her career to become a full-time wife and mother to his son, Jonty.
In a twist of events, Matthew departed East London for a fresh business venture in America, with a tearful Trixie eventually following him, leaving her future on the show hanging in the balance.
However, much to fans' relief, our favourite midwife returned to Poplar for series 14, which aired earlier this year, having left Matthew and his son Jonty behind in New York, reports the Manchester Evening News.
The beloved drama is set to grace our screens once again with a special Christmas episode this year, and series 15 is slated to air in 2026, with Trixie seemingly remaining a mainstay of the show.
On Tuesday (October 21), Helen took to her Instagram Story to share a selfie in character as Trixie while filming new episodes of the drama.
Though she had swapped the nurse's uniform for a more fashionable outfit that reflected the 70s, as the programme progressed into a new decade.
In the photograph, Helen looks stunning in a black patterned blouse tucked into denim flares. She also sports her signature blonde hair in a short bob and impeccable makeup.
The actress simply wrote alongside the picture: "Flares and collars @callthemidwife".
The post arrived just hours before Call the Midwife announced that series 15 remains in production and is set to arrive on television next year.
Posting a photograph on Instagram of Cliff Parisi as Fred Buckle and Linda Bassett as Nurse Phyliss Crane, the programme also expressed their enthusiasm as fresh episodes are approaching.
The caption revealed: "Cast cuddles are the best cuddles. Last few episodes of series 15 being filmed right now! Not long to go till we're back... Call the Midwife returns with a new Christmas Special and Series 15 in 2026 xx."
Viewers were swift to express their enthusiasm, with one individual writing: "Best show bar none, thank you so much for all of the amazing episodes. Love the cute posts."
Another declared: "Love this show so much", whilst a third commented: "Honestly just can't wait x."
