EXCLUSIVE: Watch Tom Hanks prepare for BAFTA nominated Captain Phillips in EXCLUSIVE video

Actor describes gossiping with Matt Damon about what it was like working with director Paul Greengrass

It's not just us normal folk who get nervous before starting a new job - even Tom Hanks has admitted he chatted to Hollywood pal Matt Damon about doing Captain Phillips.

The actor says he had a gossip with Damon, who has worked with director Paul Greengrass on the Bourne films, about what filming the drama would be like.

"I spoke to Matt Damon who had made three films with Paul and I said, 'What's the scoop?'

"He said, 'Look, you'll rehearse it and the first time you do a rehearsal it it'll be a disaster.

'Everyone will be talking at the same time and everybody's just trying to do what they want to do in the scene.

'But don't worry, it'll get sorted out over time and you'll get everything you need,' and that turned out to be the case."

Our exclusive clip also shows the Oscar-winning star rehearsing for a scene in the film, which sees Phillips confront the crew over their unhappiness at sailing so close to known pirate waters.

The film, based on the true story of the 2009 hijacking of the MV Maersk, is nominated for six Academy Awards.

It is also nominated for an incredible nine BAFTAs at this year's ceremony, which takes place this weekend in London.

* Captain Phillips is out now on Blu-ray, DVD and digital download and the BAFTAs will be broadcast exclusively on BBC One and BBC One HD at 9pm, Sunday 16 February
