Department Q star's 'intense' real-life drama with Nicolas Cage and Michael Sheen
Department Q’s leading man is working on his next big project and this time, it’s based on real life.
Department Q and The Crown star Matthew Goode is teaming up with some big names including Ben Kingsley and Michael Sheen on his upcoming film.
Department Q revolved around former top detective Carl Morck (played by Matthew Goode) who was wracked with guilt after his partner was left paralysed and another officer killed following an attack.
Upon his return to work, Carl has a cold case to get stuck into revolving around the disappearance of prosecutor Merritt Lingard (Chloe Pirrie) which quickly consumes his life.
Now, a few months after Department Q’s release which was highly praised by Netflix subscribers, Goode has a new film in the works.
The 47-year-old, who was Anthony Armstrong-Jones in The Crown, will be starring in the historic real-life drama Fortitude which is now in production.
The official synopsis for Fortitude reads: “The real life story about the single most successful piece of orchestrated espionage in modern day history, certainly the greatest secret mission of the Second World War.”
Deadline further elaborated that Fortitude will follow the story of British Army officers Dudley Clarke and Thomas Argyll “Tar” Robertson who used unusual methods including “fictitious armies” and “fake military equipment” to fool Nazi leadership during the Second World War.
Few other details have been released so far with Goode’s character remaining a mystery.
What is known at this time though is that he will be joined by a plethora of other household names in Fortitude, including National Treasure and Con Air actor Nicolas Cage, The Thursday Murder Club’s Ben Kingsley and The Queen and Twilight star Michael Sheen.
What’s particularly exciting about Cage’s involvement in Fortitude is that he will be once again teaming up with director Simon West who he worked on 1997 action movie Con Air with almost three decades ago.
As production has only just begun on the espionage thriller, it is not clear when it will be released, although there is some speculation that it could be sometime next year.
This won’t be the end for Goode as DCI Carl Morck though as Netflix has already given the green light for a second season which could be out in late 2026 or 2027.
Department Q is available to watch on Netflix.
