Gillian Anderson leads cast of epic Netflix Western perfect for Yellowstone fans
The forthcoming drama follows a brutal feud between two families
Gillian Anderson is returning to screens in a new Western show that might be perfect for Yellowstone fans. Netflix has just dropped first look images for The Abandons, a period drama set to premiere on December 4.
The star-studded series follows two contrasting families linked by 'awful' circumstances. Its synopsis teases: "Set in Washington Territory in 1854, the series follows the matriarchs of two very different families: one of wealth and privilege, bound by blood; and the other a found family of orphans and outcasts, bound by love and necessity.
"The families find their fates linked by two crimes, an awful secret, a star-crossed love, and a piece of land with silver underneath. The collision echoes the American struggle of the haves and have-nots, in a place just beyond the reach of justice."
The streaming giant took to social media to share exclusive images of the cast in their Western gear on Wednesday (October 1).
Actress Lena Headey leads the series of photos, with Anderson following closely behind.
Game of Thrones fans will recognise Heady as Cersei Lannister from the Emmy-winning drama. She stars opposite Anderson as the new show's feuding matriarchs.
Fans were quick to express excitement following the teaser images. Taking to Netflix's Instagram comments section, one raved: "FINALLY!!!!"
A second viewer said: "Omg December I'm going to lose my head! Gillian looks so cool," while a third wrote: "December 4 can’t be here soon enough".
Meanwhile, someone else compared the forthcoming series to another huge drama. They wrote: "[It's] like GoT [Game of Thrones] but set in the wild West!"
The Abandons was created by Sons of Anarchy writer Kurt Sutter. He collaborates with Peaky Blinders' Otto Bathurst and The Umbrella Academy's Stephen Surjik, who both serve as directors.
Its leading cast is completed by Love, Simon actor Nick Robinson, Booksmart star Diana Silvers, and X-Men: First Class alum Lucas Till.
Other cast members include The Hate U Give star Lamar Johnson, and Irish actress Aisling Franciosi, best known for her part in thriller Speak No Evil.
The Abandons premieres on Netflix on December 4
