Batman fans, it's time to get excited - Gotham is now a reality.

The exciting new series will star Ben McKenzie as Commissioner Jim Gordon in a crime drama set to tell the origin stories of Bruce Wayne and the Dark Knight's many foes.

If the premise alone wasn't enough to get you excited - though we can't think why it wouldn't be - then this trailer will surely do the trick.

It starts off as you'd expect, picking up a bit when Bruce's parents are killed (which, of course, is the motivation behind him becoming Batman)... and then we find out some of the supporting characters.

As well as the pre-Caped Crusader, it seems we're also going to get to see the origins for the likes of Penguin, the Riddler and Catwoman.

It will be a change of pace from Batman's appearances in Hollywood, but this small screen story will add more depth and intrigue to the character and his fascinating ensemble of co-stars.
