Hollyoaks actor thought Brookside crossover was April Fools' prank by boss
Hollyoaks star Louis Emerick has opened up about the soap's upcoming crossover episode with Brookside and revealed he thought he was being sacked when he was told
Louis Emerick feared he was getting the boot when Hollyoaks boss Hannah Cheers revealed plans for the Brookside crossover episode.
The 65 year old star currently portrays detective Donny Clark in the Channel 4 drama but shot to fame as Mick Johnson in Brookside across 12 years.
For Hollyoaks' 30th birthday bash, a special crossover instalment will broadcast on Wednesday (October 22) with Louis hinting at what's in store for viewers.
The soap veteran revealed: "Well, the character of Froggy Black [played by John Middleton] recently arrived and is rattling Donny's cage because he knows a big secret Donny's been hiding.
"All is not as it seems and we can safely say it's connected to the Brookside crossover. The house of cards is going to start collapsing.", reports the Liverpool Echo.
Hollyoaks supremo Hannah briefed the cast about the crossover earlier this year, leaving Louis convinced he was being wound up.
He revealed: "I was taken to a park to meet with Hollyoaks' Executive Producer Hannah Cheers one day, I thought I was getting my P45. We walked and talked and she explained the story.
"At the time I thought it was an April fool! She was so excited and I got swept away with it. This will be fun for the viewers."
Louis portrayed Mick across 1037 episodes of Brookside despite initially being cast for just a single appearance in the Merseyside-set drama. He revealed: "I came in as a guest.
"The story was Terry Sullivan doing a driving job for a cab firm where Mick worked, and they both went to collect something from a house.
"Terry presumed it was a piece of furniture but Mick knew it was a dead body! Mick went off to the bookies and Terry knocks on this door, an old lady answers and shows him upstairs – and this guy is dead!".
"I turn up later, Terry's fuming – it was a lovely episode and Phil[ Redmond] seemed suitably impressed."
Louis has always appeared in Doctors and Casualty.
Hollyoaks airs Monday to Wednesday on E4 at 7pm and first look episodes can be streamed Channel 4 from 7am
