House of Gucci trailer sees Lady Gaga unrecognisable as murderous socialite

Lady Gaga stars as Patrizia Reggiani Martinelli in the upcoming Ridley Scott thriller House of Gucci which also stars Adam Driver as her husband Maurizio Gucci

House of Gucci has revealed its first trailer showing Lady Gaga as a murderous socialite.

Directed by Ridley Scott, the film is set in 1995 and tackles the aftermath of the murder of Maurizio Gucci ( Adam Driver ), a wealthy businessman and head of the fashion house Gucci.

The perpetrator in this shocking case is actually Gucci’s own glamorous wife, Patricia Martinelli, played by pop icon Gaga herself in her first major film role since her Oscar-nominated turn as singer Ally in A Star is Born.

Also starring in the film is Oscar-winner Al Pacino as Aldo Gucci, Maurizio’s uncle with whom he engaged in a legal battle, along with Oscar-winner Jared Leto as Aldo’s own son, Paolo Gucci.

Oscar-winner Jeremy Irons also stars as Rodolfo Gucci, Maurizio’s father who was a movie star and actor, while Boardwalk Empire star Jack Huston portrays Domenico De Sole, an Italian businessman who works for the House of Gucci.

Finally, Penny Dreadful star Reeve Carney stars as legendary fashion designer Tom Ford and Salma Hayek stars as Giuseppina "Pina" Auriemma, a friend of Patricia’s who plays a key role in the shocking events.

House of Gucci will be the second film from director Ridley Scott to be released this year, with his medieval drama The Last Duel set to be released in October.

The Last Duel follows two feuding knights who prepare to engage in a fight to the death to settle a dispute when one knight ( Matt Damon ) learns that his wife, played by Killing Eve star Jodie Comer, has accused the other knight (Adam Driver) of rape.

The film also stars Ben Affleck, Dame Harriet Walter and Alex Lawther.

Both films from Scott look set to be potential Academy Award contenders in 2021 depending on their reception upon release:
