Hunger Games icon takes on 'very different' role in Yellowstone creator’s next thriller with 1923 star

Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan has another big screen thriller lined up with some recognisable stars - but you’ll have to be patient for it

A major star from The Hunger Games franchise has landed a “very different” role in an upcoming thriller helmed by Yellowstone producer Taylor Sheridan.

Previously known for other cinematic hits like Hell or High Water and Wind River, Sheridan is now penning the upcoming thriller F.A.S.T., directed by Ben Richardson.

Richardson has previously worked with Sheridan as the director of photography for a number of his projects, including Yellowstone and the Western drama’s prequel spin-offs 1883 and 1923.

He’ll be making his feature directorial debut with F.A.S.T. after also directing episodes of Sheridan’s TV shows, including the majority of 1923.

The upcoming thriller film will star 1923’s Brandon Sklenar along with Hunger Games icon Sam Claflin.

Plot details are currently under wraps but the feature will follow a former commando who begins working with the US government to take down drug dealers.

A short synopsis for the film reads: “A former U.S. special forces officer is recruited by the government's Drug Enforcement Agency to take down drug dealers who are protected by the CIA.”

Sklenar will portray the film’s protagonist, who is struggling to adjust to a regular life back on home soil.

Claflin’s role is currently a mystery, so it’s unknown if he’ll be portraying Sklenar’s character’s DEA recruiter or possibly one of the drug dealers being shielded by the CIA.

However, the Hunger Games star was able to reveal he was having “the time of [his] life” on set in a recent interview.

He also spilled that his performance will be a complete departure from many of his previous roles.

"I can't say anything about it,” Claflin told CBR. “Unfortunately, all I'm saying is, I'm having the time of my life, and [I'm] really enjoying exploring the character that I'm playing.

"It's sort of very different to things I've done before.

“I can't spill the beans, because I don't think there's, I think it's very limited information out there at the moment, but for me, it's sort of a dream come true," he went on.

"Filming in New York with a great cast on great writing is just the dream as an actor. So yeah, I'm very, very happy to be here, and I can't wait to talk about it."

It’s also set to star Oppenheimer’s Jason Clarke, Untamed’s Wilson Bethel, Sorry To Bother You’s LaKeith Stanfield and Succession’s Juliana Canfield.

Fans of Claflin can also catch him in the new British thriller All the Devils Are Here and Lazarus, the latest Harlan Coben adaptation releasing on Prime Video next month.

F.A.S.T. will be released in cinemas in 2027. Yellowstone is available to stream on Paramount+.
