Netflix fans just realising Big Bang Theory icon stars in Monster The Ed Gein Story
Monster: The Ed Gein Story is the third season in Ryan Murphy’s real-life Netflix horror series.
Monster: The Ed Gein Story has dropped on Netflix with fans realising it stars a Big Bang Theory icon.
Glee and American Horror Story director and writer Ryan Murphy is back with his next slice of real-life horror, telling yet another terrifying tale for Netflix fans to binge.
While series one revolved around the Milwaukee Monster Jeffrey Dahmer and season two focussed on brothers Lyle and Erik Menendez, this third outing is all about Ed Gein.
The Butcher of Plainfield wreaked havoc in 1950s Wisconsin, murdering, robbing graves and wearing the skin of his victims.
Gein was the inspiration behind some of Hollywood’s biggest horror films, including Alfred Hitchcock’s unforgettable Hitchcock, because of his unhealthy obsession with his mum Augusta.
The very religious matriarch isolated her two sons from the rest of the world and after her death, Ed preserved areas of the family’s farmhouse as a shrine to her.
Because of this, Augusta plays a crucial role in The Ed Gein Story with The Big Bang Theory fans recognising the star who brings her to life.
Augusta is portrayed by actress Laurie Metcalf who famously played the religious Mary Cooper, Sheldon Cooper’s (Jim Parsons) mum in the award-winning sitcom.
Whenever Sheldon was too demanding of his friends and needed a telling off or some spiritual guidance, whether he liked it or not, his mum Mary was on hand.
Metcalf can also be recognised from Uncle Buck, Norm, Desperate Housewives, Easy Money, The McCarthys, Getting On, Lady Bird and The Accidental Wolf.
The 70-year-old is probably most famous for starring in the 1980s sitcom Roseanne alongside other Big Bang Theory stars Johnny Galecki and Sara Gilbert.
And since 2018, Metcalf has reprised her role as Jackie Harris in the Roseanne spin-off The Conners with original actor John Goodman and Gilbert.
Monster: The Ed Gein Story is available to watch on Netflix.
