Netflix fans fume and vow to cancel subscription after new Bridgerton bombshell

Angry Netflix viewers are vowing to boycott the streaming platform after receiving devastating news about Bridgerton following the release of the third season

Netflix users have vowed to boycott the streaming service.

It comes after the streaming giant confirmed some huge news about the smash hit Bridgerton and the return of a cast member. Earlier this year, series three of the period drama dropped in May and June, focusing on the love story between the third Bridgerton child, Colin (Luke Newton), and his neighbour, Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan).

Season four of the drama has started filming and will return in August 2026, following the two-year gap between each series. But while some fans were excited about the news, others were left furious. One key bit of information confirmed that a cast member may not be returning to continue her role.

Viscountess 'Kate' Bridgerton (Simone Ashley) won't be making a return, according to reports. Kate made a brief appearance in series three before heading off to India with Viscount Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) so that their child could learn about their heritage. But while Bailey's return has been confirmed, Ashley was visibly absent from the cast list.

Fans have now been left baffled, wondering how Anthony would be able to cope with being separated from Kate for so long and where their child is. Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, fans of the period drama certainly didn't hold back as they expressed their true feelings.

One fumed: "I cancelled my Netflix. I haven't watched anything on it in months, and while I was looking forward to Benophie, I'll enjoy all their edits on SM now instead. Bridgerton has treated Simone Ashley like garbage, and that was really the last straw for me." Another went on to add: "I have yet to finish Bridgerton season 3 and can't imagine returning if Simone Ashley isn't in season 4."

"Imma be so for real… if Simone Ashley is not in Bridgerton s4 I don't know if i will be able to watch it. no matter how much I love the books," typed another. Another disgruntled fan commented: "I'm actually so haunted by Simone Ashley not being in Bridgerton season 4. She is a goddess walking among us and Netflix isn't trying to hire her as much as possible??? It's insane."

Elsewhere, another fan tweeted: "Honestly I am sad that Simone Ashley isn't returning for Bridgerton season 4. She doesn't need any storyline she just needs to be there as the viscountess with her husband and her family."

One also noted that Simone left her role as Olivia Hanan in the Netflix drama Sex Education for Bridgerton, saying: "Simone left SexEd to be a 'Bridgerton girl' only for production to give her 3 minutes of screen time, thus far no meaningful storyline in S3, no exploration of Kate's backstory (yet again) or her adapting to being Viscountess. This show doesn't deserve her."

If Simone doesn't return, she won't be the only big name to not return to the series, with Regé-Jean Page who played Duke Simon Hastings leaving after one series. Meanwhile, Phoebe Dynevor who played Daphne Hastings returned for series two but was not included in series three.
