Netflix issues major update on Heartstopper movie as title revealed

Filming has now finished on the story's conclusion

Netflix have shared a major update regarding the Heartstopper movie, as its new title has now been confirmed.

The hit series debuted on the streaming platform back in 2022 based on Alice Oseman's graphic novels of the same name. It wasn't long before fans were hooked with three seasons being produced in total, with the third landing in October last year.

However, devoted viewers have still been waiting to see what's next. They were initially hoping for a fourth season but Netflix went on to confirm that Charlie and Nick's story will conclude with a feature film.

It was welcome news for fans who await finding out how the pair navigate moving away to university. Now, it has been confirmed that the movie will be called Heartstopper Forever.

Filming has now finished with production having run for around a month across June and July this year. Both Kit Connor and Joe Locke have since posted on their social media about wrapping filming and saying goodbye to their respective characters.

Joe shared an image of them both on set with the caption: "Bye Charlie x. Thank you."

Netflix has previously released a synopsis for the film which states: "Nick and Charlie are inseparable, but with Nick preparing to leave for university and Charlie finding new independence at school, the reality of a long-distance relationship begins to weigh on them.

"Doubts take hold, and their relationship faces its biggest challenge yet. Meanwhile, their friends are also navigating the ups and downs of love and friendship, confronting the bittersweet challenges of growing up and moving on. Can first loves really last forever?”

Locke has previously spoken about the decision to end the series with a movie rather than a final season. He suggests it allows fans to enjoy it sooner, with its release expected some time in 2026.

He explained: “I think the time it would’ve taken to film a series, we just wouldn’t have been able to get everyone in the same place for five years. Then by that time, there would be no need for it."

He continued: "So, we realised that the only way to get it made this year is if we do a film because it’s less time commitment, and well, we can still put in a lot of the same love and care into the characters, into finishing off the story.

"It makes it feel more cinematic, more grand, and gives it the ending it deserves, which I am really excited to start shooting. And the script is great.”

Heartstopper overall has a near perfect score of 98% on Rotten Tomatoes with seasons one and three managing a perfect 100%. Fans still sing its praises with plenty claiming it is 'one of the best shows ever created'.

One sharing their thoughts online added: "Absolutely perfect series. The show is simply beautiful and the cast is charming. Emotions felt so well and the writing is perfect. Don't miss this show at any cost."
