Olly Murs admits 'honeymoon period is definitely over' in candid life update

Pop star Olly Murs married Amelia Tank in 2022 but has admitted that the 'honeymoon period is definitely gone' in an update about his marriage three years after tying the knot

Olly Murs has admitted that the 'honeymoon period is definitely gone' in a candid update about his marriage. The pop star, 41, tied the knot with Amelia Tank in 2022 and they have 18-month-old daughter Maddie together.

Just over 12 months ago, the couple welcomed a son called Albert but the Troublemaker singer has also been busy in the studio recording his new album Knees Up, and explained how his latest record is so different to his previous effort.

He said: "I wrote an album three years ago, and it was the Marry Me album. It was when we had no children, so it was like a honeymoon period. So it was like: 'Oh, I love you. You’re amazing. You’re incredible'. This album, I was able to be a little bit more cheekier with it. So when people hear it, the honeymoon period’s definitely gone, but in a fun way. We’re talking about other things in the music, but still celebrating my love for her."

But Olly, who shot to fame when he finished as runner-up behind Joe McElderry on The X Factor in 2009, insisted that this is the album he has really made for himself after years of trying to come out with a sound he thought his fans would appreciate it.

He added: "It’s nice to do an album that I wanted to do. I felt like, for a long time, I just did music for what the fans wanted. This is a ska record; it has a different feel to it." The star also explained that he feels 'lucky' to have become a dad to both a boy and a girl, and insisted that all is well between himself and his wife.

During a chat with Entertainment Daily, he added: "We’re happy, I’m happy. Who knows? Amelia might change her mind [laughs]. Right now we’re on the same page, but who knows!" In September, Olly revealed to his fans that the inspiration for his youngest's name came from within the family after fans questioned the old-fashioned nature of it."

Taking to his official Facebook page, he penned: "A few people been asking why we chose the name Albert... It's after my great-grandad Edward 'Albert' Murs.

"Me and Amelia loved the name after I was on BBC's Who Do You Think You Are? and now our little man gets to carry that bit of family history in the future... love you son." Olly appeared on the BBC ancestry show in 2024. The Troublemaker singer revealed his family hails from Latvia, so he wanted to find out what happened to his grandad Eddie, and how he managed to travel to England.

While exploring his grandfather's Latvian roots on the show, Olly discovered his great-grandparents were circus performers - and learnt more about a wartime decision that led to a tragic family estrangement.

Olly travelled to the Salamonska Circus building in Riga hoping to track down his great-grandmother Veronika Jankovska. There, he discovered that his great-grandfather Edward Murs had cheated on his wife Katrine with Veronika.

He learnt that she had given birth to Olly's grandfather, Eddie, but handed him over to her parents as she struggled to raise him. She then went off to work at the circus.

When Nazi Germany took over Latvia, Eddie fled as a refugee with his father and Katrine, while Veronika stayed in Latvia. Olly also found out that Veronika was imprisoned in a Soviet work camp and passed away in 1988, leaving viewers in tears. Olly and his dad Peter were left in tears when they visited Veronika's grave as the singer expressed: "It was quite emotional to see dad cry and get upset - I've never seen my dad cry, actually.

"I think seeing him emotional felt like I'd done something really special for him and the family, to find some peace for him - to feel connected to Latvia."
