Rings of Power season 2 still chasing top spot on Amazon Prime as fans give verdict

The Rings of Power season 2 has been released on Amazon Prime and fans have already shared their verdict on the JRR Tolkien series, with some claiming it's better than the first season.

The Lord of the Rings enthusiasts were buzzing with excitement today as they welcomed the arrival of The Rings of Power season two on Amazon Prime.

Despite a promising start and positive feedback from viewers, the series is still battling to clinch the top spot on Prime's Top 10 Most Watched chart.

The much-anticipated return of the Lord of the Rings spin-off comes after it received a mixed bag of reviews, but many fans are already suggesting that this season is shaping up to be superior to its predecessor.

Set in the legendary world of JRR Tolkien's Middle-earth, the show is an epic tale unfolding thousands of years before the events depicted in The Hobbit.

According to IMDb, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power "follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil". Among the star-studded cast are Morfydd Clark as Galadriel, Robert Aramayo in the role of Elrond, and Ismael Cruz Cordova who appears as Arondir.

Fans took to X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, to share their first impressions of the second season, reports the Express.

One enthusiast exclaimed: "#RingsOfPower S2 is an absolute masterpiece. Goosebumps..." Meanwhile, another was moved to tears, commenting: "This show is AWESOME." (sic)

A third fan was eager to express their approval, writing: "#RingsOfPower has come out of the gate swinging! Very impressed with episode 1! That opening scene went hard! The pacing for the ep was solid and we got some needed backstory." (sic)

"So far I like the way they have moved the story along, no long drawn out parts just straight to it!!" one viewer agreed. (sic)

Another fan added: "I've just finished episode 3 WHOA WHAT A PHENOMENAL EP MY FAVOURITE SO FAR." (sic)

However, not all viewers were as impressed, with one criticising: "Again the biggest problem of #RingsOfPower is pacing, its utter unwillingness to take its time to pay out the story but at the same time to make almost every scene feel deathly slow, dull and facile." (sic)

Another echoed this sentiment, saying: "The only people that might enjoy the Rings of Power are casual movie watchers who have seen the movies and just want something to watch related to Lord Of the Rings. For die hard Tolkien fans, this show will be a huge disappointment for sure." (sic)

Despite these criticisms, the overall response from fans has been largely positive, while critics' reviews remain mixed.

Interestingly, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has yet to secure the top spot on Prime's Top 10 Most Watched list.

Instead, Amazon's Those About To Die continues to dominate the chart, having already amassed a large viewership.

Set in 79 A. D. Rome, the series delves into the grim business of entertaining the masses, with the brutal games of the coliseum featuring prominently.
