Stephen Graham has left fans emotional after delivering a powerful speech at this year’s Emmy Awards.
The 77th annual awards ceremony took place on Sunday night (14th September) at the Peacock Theater in Downtown Los Angeles, California.
It was a stellar night for Graham’s hit Netflix drama Adolescence, which received an incredible 13 nominations.
Not only did the series pick up the trophy for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series and best director in the same category for Philip Barantini, but three of its stars also left with awards.
Graham picked up the award for Best Actor in a Limited Series or TV Movie, while his 15-year-old co-star Owen Cooper and The Crown’s Erin Doherty won awards for their supporting performances.
Leading man Graham co-wrote the series with Jack Thorne and also nabbed the Emmy for Best Writing in a Limited Series or TV Movie.
Graham’s acceptance speech left viewers emotional as he touched on his working-class background and Jamaican heritage.
“This kind of thing doesn't normally happen to a kid like me,” he admitted.
“I'm just a mixed race kid from a block of flats in a place called Kirkby, so for me, to be here today in front of my peers and to be acknowledged by you is the utmost humbling thing I could ever imagine in my life, and it shows you that any dream is possible.”
Fans were blown away by Graham’s grateful and personal speech after picking up his first Emmys.

“The man carries every tv series he’s a part of, and if he’s in it you already know it’s going to be a great show.”
