Stranger Things star admits ‘everyone was worried’ as he spills concern for final season
Finn Wolfhard has admitted the cast and creators of Stranger Things had concerns about how the hit Netflix show would come to an end
Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard has admitted his concerns over the Netflix show’s conclusion in a rare interview ahead of the final season.
The streamer’s smash-hit supernatural thriller will be coming to an end with its fifth season, releasing in three parts across November and December.
Created by Matt and Ross Duffer, the showrunners recently confessed to feeling the pressure to deliver a satisfying climax.
Speaking in TIME’s recent feature on the show, Matt said: “It's a little scary…
“It puts pressure on every season because it has to perform better than the one prior to it in order to continue to justify growing the scale of the show.”
And Ross agreed: “We were nervous about season four…It was such a relief when it got the viewership it did because you don't want to scale down for your final season…
“Or an abbreviated final season…These were all possible realities.”
Wolfhard has become one of the show’s biggest breakout stars thanks to his portrayal of Mike Wheeler.
The 22-year-old likened the franchise to another popular series that was blasted by fans for its controversial final episodes.
“I think everyone was pretty worried, honestly,” he confessed.
“The way that Game of Thrones got torn to shreds in that final season, we’re all walking into this going, ‘We hope to not have that kind of thing happen’.”
Thankfully, those fears were quickly dispelled, as Wolfhard assured: “But then we read the scripts. We knew that it was something special.”
Wolfhard has also reflected on his overnight fame from starring in the series, having since gone on to star in the Ghostbusters franchise and It.

Sky is giving away a free Netflix subscription with its new Sky Stream TV bundles, including the £15 Essential TV plan.
This lets members watch live and on-demand TV content without a satellite dish or aerial and includes hit shows like House of Guinness.
“It’s just a symptom of what filmmaking can be, which is chaotic,” he says.
“As a child actor, you’re trying to make things easy for people. You don’t know how to speak up for yourself. You don’t know how to ask for a break…
“It was incredible and subconsciously terrifying to be 13 and all of the sudden everyone knows who you are.”
Millions of fans worldwide are on tenterhooks for the final season to begin in a month’s time.
However, this may not be the end of the Hawkins saga as the Duffers have also alluded to “loose” talks about continuing the Stranger Things mythos. Keep your eyes peeled for more details.
Stranger Things season 5, part 1 premieres November, 26th November on Netflix. Part 2 will be released on 25th December, followed by part 3 on 31st December.
