‘Thrilling’ crime drama grips viewers ‘from the very start’ despite poor reviews

A new thriller on Apple TV+ has just premiered to mixed reviews, but several viewers are already hooked on the drama

Apple TV+’s latest thriller series The Last Frontier has debuted to a disappointing 44 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, but some fans are loving it.

The new drama from The Blacklist creator Jon Bokenkamp stars Jason Clarke as Frank Remnick, a US Marshal stationed in Alaska who investigates the crash of a prison transport plane.

As multiple fugitives threaten the safety of his town, Frank begins to suspect the crash wasn’t an accident.

Also starring Dominic Cooper, Haley Bennett, Simone Kessell and Alfre Woodard, the 10-part series was one of the most highly-anticipated new streaming releases of 2025.

Despite receiving somewhat lacklustre reviews from critics, casual viewers have already been gripped by the first two episodes that were released this past Friday (10th October).

The Last Frontier currently has a more promising 69 percent audience score on RT and several five-star reviews from Google users.

One such positive write-up claimed: “Well, let’s just say that this series gripped me from the very start and I mean very start of the first episode in the opening scene onwards and never letting go until you start begging for the next coming episodes.

“Great performances from every single character and storyline with great visuals and sound effects to complement this fine piece of drama.”

They concluded: “Thrilling, engrossing and entertaining at its best.”

Another fan was on the edge of their seat for the rest of the series: “I’ve only been able to see 2 eps so far and that’s the only bad thing I can say.

“Love it so far. I’m so into being able to binge shows! I hate waiting!! Can’t wait for next Friday.”

Someone else wrote: "The show is very engaging, it had me at the edge of my seat from the first ten minutes & that’s hard to do, It usually takes me like 3 episodes.

“The performances are great, I like that it’s set in Alaska. I wish I could binge it.”
