ITV's hit drama The Tower returned to screens with gut-wrenching scenes but some viewers couldn't keep up.

The popular crime drama made an epic comeback on Monday (September 2) as it entered its third series. The new series, which no longer features a tower, still includes some familiar faces such as actress Gemma Whelan as Met copper DS Sarah Collins and Jimmy Akingbola as DC Steve Bradshaw.

Set in gritty London, the opening scenes saw a young teenage boy stabbed as the police tried to tackle the ongoing violence and knife crime on the streets. With the graphic and heartbreaking portrayal, viewers were issued a warning to brace themselves for what lies ahead.

But with so much going on, some spectators found it quite difficult to keep up with it all. Heading over to X formerly known as Twitter, fans shared their thoughts.

Another fan added: "I’m so glad I’m not the only one who is lost, I have no idea what is going on or who is who." While a fourth added: "I'm enjoying it but really haven't a clue what is going on."

But despite the violent scenes, some fans were happy the show made a return.
