Virgin River season 7 gets disappointing update as Netflix boss confirms release window
Fans of Netflix’s hit romance drama Virgin River have a little longer to wait before Mel and Jack’s adventures continue
Virgin River enthusiasts still have a lengthy wait ahead of them based on the latest update from Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos.
In an earnings call with the streaming giant’s head, reported by Show Snob, several series were confirmed to be returning in 2026.
This includes popular period drama Bridgerton, the star-studded follow-up to surprise hit Beef and another madcap outing for Guy Ritchie’s crime caper The Gentlemen.
However, while many fans were keeping their fingers crossed for new episodes of Virgin River before the end of the year, it looks like they’ll be on tenterhooks for another few months.
Season six wrapped up with yet another dramatic twist for Mel Monroe (played by Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson), as Jack’s ex Charmaine (Lauren Hammersley) went missing and one of Mel’s patients delivered an ultimatum.
In the recent panel, Sarandos said: “I wanted to give you a little bit of colour into 2026.
“We’re really particularly excited about a few things coming up next year like the returns of some of our biggest and most beloved shows like Bridgerton, Beef, Emily in Paris, One Piece, Outer Banks, Virgin River, The Gentlemen, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Running Point, Ginny and Georgia, Lupin, all coming back for new seasons in 2026."
As production for Virgin River’s seventh season already concluded back in June this year, it’s likely to return in the first months of 2026.
There is still a slight chance for a December release date, as Sarandos did mention the fan-favourite Lily Collins-starring drama Emily in Paris as returning next year, despite a release date for season five being set for 18th December 2025.
Plus, there’s always the possibility of another surprise Christmas special, like the two-parter that delighted fans back in November 2023.
Even so, it seems more likely that Virgin River will be scheduled for next year as subscribers haven’t heard any updates until now.
The latest update from Netflix comes after series lead Breckenridge also indicated a 2026 release for the new season during an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

Sky is giving away a free Netflix subscription with its new Sky Stream TV bundles, including the £15 Essential TV plan.
This lets members watch live and on-demand TV content without a satellite dish or aerial and includes hit shows like House of Guinness.
"There is a lot going on this year for Netflix," she said. "If I was an intelligent person, guessing, I would say I wouldn't roll Virgin River out until the new year."
She also gave viewers an intriguing sneak peek at what’s coming up, teasing: “The storyline with Marley (Rachel Drance) and the baby does not disappear in season seven.
“It's pretty heavily featured… and it's something that me and Jack have to navigate through.”
Virgin River is available to stream on Netflix.
