Yellowstone star Gil Birmingham has been left "heartbroken" by the passing of legendary actor Graham Greene, who died on Sunday afternoon following a 50-year career in film and television.

While they never appeared together in the popular Western series, both featured in the Yellowstone universe, with Birmingham playing Thomas Rainwater in the mainline drama and Greene making a guest appearance as Spotted Eagle in 1883.

Greene also had a cameo role in Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan's Sylvester Stallone-fronted crime series Tulsa King and appeared alongside Birmingham in the Twilight Saga.

Nevertheless, he was perhaps most recognised for his Academy Award-nominated role in Dances With Wolves, the historical drama helmed by and featuring Yellowstone lead Kevin Costner.

Birmingham honoured Greene following his death at 73 with a heartfelt Instagram post, reports the Express.
