Yellowstone star bags role as father of famed Hollywood icon in upcoming film

A Yellowstone star has joined the cast of a new biopic about Hollywood legend James Stewart

Yellowstone's Neal McDonough has officially joined the cast of the upcoming James Stewart biopic, Jimmy.

Best known for his role as villain Malcolm Beck in the hit Western series on Paramount Network, McDonough has also starred in Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan's Sylvester Stallone-led crime drama Tulsa King and popular shows like 9-1-1: Lone Star and American Horror Story.

In the new film, he will portray Alexander, the father of Stewart, played by Riverdale's KJ Apa.

The actor shared the news on social media, reposting the official announcement from the film's Instagram account which featured a clapperboard image and the caption: "And we're rolling - It's a Wonderful Day 1 on set."

McDonough's casting was announced alongside several other famous names as Jimmy begins production, reports the Express.

Christopher McDonald of Happy Gilmore 2 fame will play Hollywood star Lionel Barrymore, while Chicago Fire's Kara Killmer is set to portray Lady Julia.

Comedy actor Rob Riggle will take on the role of US Army Colonel Terrill, and Jemma Donovan will play Hollywood icon Ginger Rogers.

Currently being filmed in West Cork, Ireland, the movie is directed by Aaron Burns.

Burns expressed his excitement about the project this week, stating: "There is something special about the way our amazing cast has immediately connected deeply with our story and with one another.

"Being in Ireland allows us to have the feel of England in the 1940s, and with our beautiful costumes and sets, I feel like we've stepped back into Jimmy Stewart's world."

The previously revealed cast also features Jason Alexander as Louis B. Mayer, Max Casella as Frank Capra, Sarah Drew as Hedda Hopper, Julian Works as Second Lieutenant Martinez and Jen Lilley as Gloria Stewart.
