Netflix adds 'best show ever made' without fans even realising
A Western drama that has been labelled as a 'masterpiece' is now available to watch on Netflix.
Netflix has quietly added a drama that's been hailed as the "best show ever made" by fans.
Originally premiering in 2021, 1883 was the first of two Yellowstone spin-offs to debut on Paramount+ chronicling the forebears of the legendary Dutton clan.
This specific instalment in the Duttons' saga tracks James and Margaret Dutton (portrayed by Tim McGraw and Faith Hill) as they abandon impoverished Texas to begin afresh with mate and former military commander Shea Brennan (Sam Elliot) accompanying them on their trek.
Initially 1883 was exclusively accessible on Paramount+ but it was discreetly introduced to Netflix earlier this year for viewers to devour the 10-episode series.
The Western might be a spin-off but it has established itself as a standalone hit with 1883 earning an outstanding 83% on review platform Rotten Tomatoes compared to Yellowstone's 83%.
A supporter on X described 1883 as a "truly inspiring, beautiful and sad story".
A Rotten Tomatoes reviewer concurred: "This is about as good as TV could ever get. Beautifully filmed, brutal but never gratuitously so."
Another person on X branded it as "by far, the best show ever made", whilst a fourth noted: "It is an intricate tale of loss and determination. I was entranced from start to finish."
Meanwhile, a fellow watcher praised the entire Yellowstone franchise, confessing they are "truly an addict".
"Binge watched it over again, back to back - still phenomenal!" The Yellowstone universe expanded in the following year with another spin-off, 1923, which ran for two seasons and starred Harrison Ford as James' older brother Jacob and The Thursday Murder Club's Helen Mirren as Cara.
Sadly for fans of Taylor Sheridan's original drama, Yellowstone concluded with its fifth and final season in December 2024, but there's still plenty more on the horizon.
Several other spin-offs are already being teased, including 1944, The Madison, Y-Marshals and Dutton Ranch.
The franchise continues to draw in big names, with The Madison set to star Michelle Pfeiffer and Kurt Russell, and original actors Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly reprising their roles as Rip and Beth for The Dutton Ranch series.
