Katherine Ryan takes swipe at BAFTAs snub as Michael McIntyre's The Wheel returns
Katherine Ryan is 'shut down' for the sitcom category on The Wheel
Comedian Katherine Ryan has addressed her BAFTAs history as Michael McIntyre's The Wheel returns to screens this weekend.
Michael McIntyre is back with his hit game show, which is set to air on BBC One on Saturday evening. With new celebrity faces, there is much to look forward to with the latest instalment.
Airing on September 25 at 8.20pm, contestants will once again compete to win a life changing sum of money by answering questions from a panel of celebrity experts, with host Michael, 49. As they are spun on a giant wheel, the player soon chooses one celebrity expert to "shut down" on who they think will be least likely to answer a question.
With the hopes of winning big, one wrong answer could see them being sent back down, going home with nothing.
In a sneak peek, player Hannah is taking on the game alongside celebrity experts Katherine Ryan, Susan Wokoma, Roman Kemp, Layton Williams, Jill Scott, Joe Marler and Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith.
As she chooses the sitcoms category, Hannah is told Susan is the expert on the subject as she is then asked who she wants to "shut down" on the particular subject.
Looking at her guest panel, she originally thinks about shutting down Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith. However, Steven replies: "We've got six BAFTAs", as Reece adds: "We've been in comedy for 30 years."
Host Michael McIntyre jokes: "Don't be alarmed by Steve, he shouts I've got six BAFTAs all day, even Deliveroo comes round."
Changing her mind, Hannah then chooses to shut down comedian Katherine Ryan, as host Michael jokes: "Okay, let's shut down another comedian."
It wasn't long before Katherine snubbed the BAFTAs. The comedian said: "I've also written a sitcom, it didn't win a BAFTA. It won zero BAFTAS, and I like your strategy Hannah, I'll be shut down."
Michael McIntyre said: "You're working on a BAFTAs strategy", before adding: "I really hope it doesn't land on Katherine, I'm worried now."
It comes as Katherine has sadly not seen BAFTA success, despite having previously been nominated. The star was nominated for the award for her role writing and starring in the series 'The Duchess'.
Streaming on Netflix, The Duchess follows a single mum's life in London who is seen juggling her career, young daughter and her relationship with her boyfriend.
Spanning across six episodes, the show also stars Rory Keenan, Katy Byrne and Sophie Fletcher. It has been described by Netflix as "raunchy", "witty" and "irreverent".
Michael McIntyre's The Wheel airs on Saturday at 8.20pm on BBC One.
