1) Lesson 5. Teaching As Your Vocation, Mission and Profession

Teaching can be considered a vocation, mission, and profession. A vocation comes from the Latin word meaning "to call" - teachers feel called to their work. A mission comes from the Latin word meaning "to send" - teachers are sent into the world to accomplish the task of teaching. Teaching is also a profession that requires long preparation and striving for excellence, as teachers must be able to effectively serve their students. The document contrasts a "pwede na" or "good enough" mentality with the pursuit of excellence needed in a true profession like teaching.
