STEEPLE ANALYSIS TEMPLATE

Purpose
To help assess the environmental factors (socio-cultural, technological, economic, ecological,
political, legal and ethical STEEPLE) that influence your target audience(s) and the way they
behave.
How to use or apply
Use this template to set out the STEEPLE factors that you have indentified for your target audience
and problem behaviour.
A first step might be to engage the team in a brainstorming exercise. People may have different
perspectives on the nature and impact of environmental factors, so it is important to gather as much
information and as many views as possible.
Ensure that your STEEPLE analysis relates specifically to the objectives of the current project.
Recognise that a STEEPLE analysis is ongoing.
Remember that many of the factors will be inter-related. For example, a change in the ecological
environment and government legislation.
