How to Wipe the Device (hard reset)


IMPORTANT: It takes approximately one hour to wipe the device. The device must be connected to iTunes on the PC before it can be used again. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. If the battery is low, plug the device into a power outlet or PC to charge the device. Open Settings. Go to General > Reset. Select Erase All Content and Settings. Tap Erase iPhone twice to confirm. When the hard reset is complete, open iTunes on the PC and connect the device to re-initialize it.

How to Reboot the Device (soft reset)


1. Press and hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons for about 15 seconds. Note: Ignore the red slider that appears after about 5 seconds. 2. Release the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons when the Apple logo appears.

How to Turn On/Off the Phone


On/Off You cannot turn the phone off without turning off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. See Airplane Mode. Airplane Mode 1. 2. Open Settings. Turn Airplane mode on or off.

How to Turn On/Off the Device


On/Sleep Press the sleep/wake button. Off 1. 2. Press and hold the sleep/wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears Drag the slider to the right.

How to Set Ringer to Vibrate


The iPhone has a ringer switch (on the left side of the device) that, when set to vibrate, changes the ringer, alerts, and sounds to vibrate. Flip the Ring/Silent switch.

How to Connect to a Bluetooth Device


1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Turn on the Bluetooth device and activate pairing mode. On the iPhone, open Settings. Go to General > Bluetooth. Turn Bluetooth on. Select the desired device from the list. If prompted, enter Bluetooth device password.

Other Reset Options


Reset All Settings (2 min) Reset all settings (including EAS setup and email) to defaults. Stored media is not deleted. Calendar and Contacts entries still exist but are not linked to Outlook. Open Settings and go to General > Reset > Reset All Settings.

On-screen Keyboard
When text entry is possible, the keyboard will automatically appear.

How to Type Uppercase Letters


To type a single uppercase letter, press the Shift key before pressing a letter. To turn on CAPS LOCK, double-tap the Shift key. The Shift key turns blue when caps lock is on. Note: CAPS LOCK is not enabled by default. To enable: 1. 2. 3. Open Settings. Go to General > Keyboard. Turn Enable Caps Lock on.

Reset Keyboard Dictionary (1 min) Erase all words that have been added to the dictionary. Open Settings and go to General > Reset > Reset Keyboard Dictionary.

Reset Network Settings (1 min) Remove all stored W-Fi networks. Open Settings and go to General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

Reset Home Screen Layout (1 min) Reset the home screen to the factory default. Open Settings and go to General > Reset > Reset Home Screen Layout.

How to Type Numbers


Press the Number key and select the desired numbers.

Reinstall OS (requires a PC) (20+ mins) Restore the most recent iPhone OS. Settings (including EAS setup) can be restored from backup, but all data is deleted, including downloaded applications and media. 1. 2. 3. Connect the iPhone to the PC and open iTunes. In iTunes, select iPhone from the left column and click the Summary tab. Click Restore and follow the on-screen prompts.

How to Type Symbols
