India Against Corruption launched a scathing attack on the NDA government as well as the Manmohan Singh government for protecting the interests of corporates, especially Reliance Industries Limited (RIL). It demanded that the governments contract with RIL be scrapped as Mukesh Ambanis company allegedly cut down on production from its KG D6 gas- field to gain huge profits after the proposed gas price revision. Cable television in Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata switched over from analogue to digital mode, with subscribers who have not yet installed a set-top box set to wake up to a television blackout on November 1. However, the Madras High Court granted a further extension of the switchover deadline in Chennai until November 5. Lyricist and well known poet Gulzar has been awarded with Indira Gandhi National Integration Award by Congress President Sonia Gandhi. The Indira Gandhi Award for National Integration is a prestigious award accorded by the Indian National Congress, after its former President and Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi. This Award is given annually starting from 1985 to distinguished persons/institutions for promoting national integration and understanding and fellowship amongst religious groups, communities, ethnic groups, cultures, languages and traditions of India and the strengthening, through thought and action of the nation's sense of solidarity. 2011 award went to Mohan Dharia(former Union Minister, lawyer and social worker) Indian Cricketer Virat Kohli was chosen for the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) Polly Umrigar award for being India's top international cricketer in the 2011-12 season. BCCI president -Narayanaswami Srinivasan Anand Kumar, teacher and founder of Super 30 institute, which provides free residential coaching to students from economically backward families for IIT-JEE exams, named 'People's Hero' by People magazine. Super 30 is an Indian educational program that started in Patna, Bihar, India under the banner of 'Ramanujan School of Mathematics', by Anand Kumar. China invited Dr. A. P. J Abdul Kalam to teach at Peking University. Members of the Sri Lankan parliament (speaker-Chamal Rajapaksa) submitted papers for an impeachment motion against the Chief Justice of Sri Lanka, Shirani Bandaranayake Haiti is the worst hit by Hurricane Sandy in the Caribbean, with 70% of its crops destroyed.

Britain is planning to cut its 250 million Euro aid to India following domestic pressure due to the economic crisis the country is facing. Veteran BJP leader Kailashpati Mishra passed away. The 3rd India-Japan-US trilateral dialogue was held in New Delhi. Its aim was to enhance cooperation on marine security. Ruchir Sharma won the Tata Literature First Book award for Break out Nations.

The 6th SAARC Speakers and Parliamentarians conference was held in Islamabad. The 5th one was held in India

Bishop Tawadis has become the Pope of Eqypts Coptic Christians. The Copts are Egyptian Christians a major ethnor-eligious group in Egypt and the largest Christian group there. Historically they spoke the Coptic language, a direct descendant of the Demotic Egyptian spoken in the Roman era, but it has been near-extinct and mostly limited to liturgical use since the 18th century. The IIT Councils Standing Committee, which consists of the directors of the seven older IITs met in Mumbai. They have recommended a 80% fee hike. Veteran journalist and former bureau chief of the United News of India(UNI), D.Sitaram passed away. The fast launched by civil rights activist, Irom Sharmila, demanding repeal of the Armed Forces(Special Powers) Act, 1958 completed its 12th year.

November 7th, 2012


Sachin Tendulkar received honorary membership of the Order of Australia. He is the second Indian to receive it, the first being Soli Sorabjee, celebrate jurist. The Order of Australia is an order of chivalry established by Elizabeth II, Queen of Australia, to recognise Australian citizens and other persons for achievement or for meritorious service.

Pakistan was declared winner of the Asian Kabbadi championship after the Indian team walked out from the field in a protest against the referee fining the Indian coach. India won the Cup in 2011 Worlds rarest whale- the Spade-toothed beaked whale was found in the Pacific Ocean. Chairman of the Khaitan group-S.K. Khaitan passed away. Barak Obama won a second term for presidency of the United States. He is the countrys 44th president. This is the 57th term of the US presidency.
